1.15 Newbury – Betfair Cheltenham Roarcast Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase
Bravemansgame has a tough task off a mark of 159 on his handicap debut and might fall short to improving pair Pats Fancy and Grumpy Charlie. Slight preference is for the former, who is being aimed at the National Hunt Chase and the form of his Chepstow win last time has been franked by the second.
Selection: Pats Fancy @ 7/2
1.50 Newbury – Daily Rewards With Betfair Handicap Hurdle
Polish won this last year off the same mark of 130 but preference is for The Brimming Water, whose defeat of subsequent easy winner Unexpected Party two starts back is excellent form. The return to better ground should allow him to stay this trip after he didn’t quite get home on soft over 3m½f at Haydock last time.
Selection: The Brimming Water @ 7/2
2.25 Newbury – Betfair Denman Chase (Grade 2)
Clan Des Obeaux was caught out when second in this last year after placing in the King George and he might have to settle for the runner-up spot again behind Royale Pagaille. He did remarkably well to win a Haydock handicap off 163 last time and this eight-year-old is on the upgrade.
Selection: Royale Pagaille @ 9/4
3.00 Newbury – Betfair Exchange Game Spirit Chase (Grade 2)
The form of the Paul Nicholls stable is a concern but Hitman might be able to win this even if below his best. He produced a top display when second to Greaneteen in the Tingle Creek last time and is best treated by the conditions of this race. As the youngest and least experienced horse in the field he is open to the most improvement.
Selection: Hitman @ 9/4
3.35 Newbury – Betfair Hurdle (Handicap) (Grade 3)
Gary Moore knows what it takes to win the Betfair Hurdle and can add a fourth success in the handicap with Fifty Ball, who was second off this mark in the race last season. Chasing didn’t go to plan this winter but he reopposes with last season’s winner Soaring Glory off 14lb better terms and can go close.
Selection: Fifty Ball @ 14/1
4.10 Newbury – My Odds Boost On Betfair Novices’ Hurdle
Jaramillo wasn’t going badly when falling two out on his hurdling debut in a fair race won by Saint Segal, who was second in a Grade 1 at Chepstow on his previous start. Warren Greatrex’s runner boasted useful form on the Flat and receives a healthy 12lb weight-for-age allowance from his elders.
Selection: Jaramillo @ 10/1
4.45 Newbury – Best Odds On The Betfair Exchange (A Standard Open National Hunt Flat Race) (Listed Race)
Authorised Speed was impressive when striking over this course and distance by ten lengths last time and is ready for this step up in class. He sets the standard on Racing Post Ratings by virtue of that performance and might have too much against a handful of interesting debut bumper winners who lack experience.
Selection: Authorised Speed @ 3/1
