Tuesday afternoon racing comes from Newcastle, with the Gosforth Park circuit hosting an eight-race National Hunt fixture.
They get underway from 12.20pm, with an all-weather bumper, and action concludes at 4.00pm.
You can watch all the action, alongside every race from the UK and Ireland, when logged into MansionBet and our tipster has a race-by-race preview of today’s Newcastle card.
12.20 – Cazoo Open NH Flat Race (2m)
Once-raced winners Call Me Harry and Ri Na Farraige are leading players under their penalties, while Boot ‘N’ Shoe was behind the latter over C&D a fortnight ago and will hope to get closer with a 6lb pull. Warren Greatrex has an interesting newcomer in STAR FLYER. He makes appeal on paper and is potentially each-way value at 8/1 in the opener.
Selection: Star Flyer @ 8/1
12.55 – Cazoo Search Drive Smile Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (2m6f)
Goodtimes Badtimes has improved for the move to Sandy Thomson and opened his account for this handler at Ayr in early January when scoring with plenty to spare. A 9lb rise asks for more and WOTSMYNAME (fourth in that race) might be afforded a chance to close him down over this extended trip.
Selection: Wotsmyname @ 8/1
1.30 – QuinnCasino Novices’ Hurdle (2m)
Favourite Onward Route should get his head in front soon having shaped encouragingly a fortnight ago on first start since a wind op. RORY AND ME twice shaped well in maiden hurdles either side of a year off, including over C&D in December, and he’s on a fair mark if bouncing back from a lesser Wetherby effort over Christmas. Good ground here could also be a plus-factor for him.
Selection: Rory And Me @ 14/1
2.00 – QuinnBet Best Odds Guaranteed Handicap Chase
Just the five contenders and after straightforward wins at Sedgefield and Kelso in December, it’s hard to ignore the progressive profile of SOUNDS RUSSIAN for the Ruth Jefferson team. He is clutching a Cheltenham Festival entry in a Grade 1 novice next month and, if he’s going there, he’ll want to be defying a mark of 132 now.
Selection: Sounds Russian @ 2/1
2.30 – Download The QuinnBet App Maiden Hurdle (2m4f)
Dedanser was second-best in a Wetherby handicap recently over this sort of trip for Donald McCain and should be going close back in this grade with cheekpieces added. PEACEFUL SUNDAY has experience over timber already and returned from 203 days off with a solid effort in a bumper at Fairyhouse last month. He’s a viable alternative to the market leader.
Selection: Peaceful Sunday @ 10/3
3.00 – QuinnBet Quarterback Handicap Chase (2m)
SIX ONE NINE ran a decent race last time at Ayr on heavy going that wouldn’t have played to his strengths. His chasing win at Sedgefield in April was on good ground and conditions here look ideal. He has now dropped 3lb below that win-mark and if a first-time tongue-tie has a positive effect, he looks well-treated with Alan Doyle taking a further 7lb off.
Selection: Six One Nine @ 5/1
3.30 – quinnbet.com Mares’ Handicap Hurdle (2m)
Cancan is running with consistency and should be on the premises again in his first outing of the year but RAVENSCAR was only foiled by the bang in-form Lime Drop at Sedgefield last time. The winner was completing a four-timer and the front two were clear. Phil Kirby’s mare is a little unfortunate to be up 4lb without winning but a replication of that effort sees her firmly in the mix now.
Selection: Ravenscar @ 4/1
4.00 – quinnbet.com Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (2m7½f)
HALF TRACK had two promising runs behind him before he landed an Ayr novice (2m5½f, soft) four days before Christmas. The runner-up wasn’t disgraced in fourth behind Jonbon no less next time, while the third home has won both starts over timber since. This increased trip should be a positive for the handicap debutant under Sean Quinlan.
Selection: Half Track @ 11/10
