This season’s Scottish Premiership title race is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing in years, with both Rangers and Celtic back in action on Saturday.
By the time Celtic kick off against Dundee United at Parkhead, leaders Rangers will have already concluded their match away at Ross County, with both teams looking to maintain their winning momentum ahead of Wednesday’s hotly anticipated Old Firm derby.
With a further four matches to look forward to in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday, it promises to be an intriguing day at both ends of the table.
Bhoys Building Title Belief
Celtic’s run of nine consecutive league titles was ended in spectacular fashion by Rangers last term, but after an initial slow start under manager Ange Postecoglou, the Bhoys appear to be finding their feet following a 12-match unbeaten run across all competitions that includes 11 wins.
If you break that down even further then Celtic are certainly a team in form, as since drawing with Saturday’s opponents Dundee United back in September, Postecoglou has seen his side win 13 and lose none of their 15 subsequent Premiership matches.
Dundee United meanwhile have been faltering of late, particularly on the road, as they have taken just two points from their last five league fixtures away from Tannadice, failing to score in the previous two.
The Terrors are also without a win in their last 13 meetings with Celtic, with a home success on Saturday appearing the most likely outcome at 1/8, while there could be value to be had in backing a Bhoys win and over 3.5 goals in the match at 11/10.
Buddies to Brush Aside Dundee
St Mirren have been in impressive form since returning from the winter break, as they have won all three of their matches in 2022, including their midweek 1-0 success over Aberdeen.
With two of those victories coming in the league, the Buddies have eased their relegation concerns, but the same cannot be said for Saturday’s hosts Dundee, who are without a win in seven top-flight fixtures and only managed to snap a six-game losing streak with a goalless draw at bottom club St Johnstone during the week.
James McPake’s side are certainly in a battle to preserve their top-flights status, but they may have to wait a little longer to return to winning ways, as they have failed to triumph in any of their last five home meetings with St Mirren, with three of those contests ending in defeat.
All the signs appear to be pointing to a St Mirren win at Dens Park on Saturday, which can be backed at 33/20.
Dons to Add to St Johnstone Doom
Aberdeen left St Mirren Park frustrated during the week, as their three-match unbeaten run was ended, but the Dons remain in good form on home soil, registering four wins and a draw from their last five at Pittodrie.
That is a sequence Stephen Glass will expect his side to extend when bottom of the table St Johnstone come to town on Saturday, with the visitors having only taken one point from their last nine in the league, while their most recent away fixture saw them lose at fourth tier Kelty Hearts in the Scottish Cup.
Goals have also been hard to come by for Callum Davidson’s side – they have netted just twice in nine games – with Aberdeen looking a tempting option at 7/5 to win Saturday’s match to zero.
There has been a lack of goals in recent meetings between these two as well, with just three having been netted across the last five clashes, so backing under 1.5 goals in the match at 7/5 could also prove shrewd.
