The majority of January breaks have allowed FPL users to reset and regroup ahead of the second half of the season, but the last few weeks have been nothing short of a joke.
That may sound strong to some, but the fun is slowly creeping out of the FPL world, and it would not come as a surprise to hear people giving up at this stage.
After GWK21 became a double gameweek, players scrambled to get Leicester and Everton assets, but that went to waste as their game was called off due to Covid-19.
Our team managed to battle on, though, with the likes of Sergio Reguilon, Son Heung-Min and Michail Antonio all doing the business.
We have to mention Jarrod Bowen on his own, though, with the West Ham ace grabbing 42 points as captain.
As promised, we have picked our best Free Hit team for GWK22 for those wanting to use their chip, but our usual starting XI will return in GWK23, when we hope there’s some normality to the fixture schedule.
Goalkeeper – David De Gea
The Spaniard only scored us three points in GWK21, but it is hard to justify anyone else who is playing twice. Trips to Aston Villa and Brentford should give De Gea the chance to add to his clean sheet tally for the campaign, and the United stopper has been averaging 5.2 points per match since Gameweek 15.
Defenders – Sergio Reguilon, Antonio Rudiger, Diogo Dalot, Trent Alexander-Arnold
Tottenham were unable to reach the EFL Cup final on Wednesday, losing 1-0 to Chelsea on home soil. Reguilon played no part in the match but will return for two games against Arsenal and Leicester.
Spurs will do very well to keep two clean sheets, but the fullback has shown he can get forward and cause problems in the final third.
Rudiger has been a mainstay in our teams all season, and after netting against Spurs on Wednesday, he keeps his spot ahead of two matches against Manchester City and Brighton.
Dalot, like De Gea, offers a decent route into two routine fixtures for Manchester United, while TAA keeps his spot, even though he is only playing once.
The Reds face Brentford at home, a fixture Liverpool should be winning without conceding, which is available at 11/10.
Midfielders – Jarrod Bowen, Lucas Moura, Diogo Jota, James Maddison
Jota stays in our team, even though he plays once, but with both Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane away at AFCON, we know Jota is going to start and have a boatload of chances.
The former Wolves man is 27/4 to score two or more, while we expect big returns from Lucas Moura and James Maddison, who also play twice in midweek.
Bowen was the star of the show last week, and he plays against Leeds United, who he scored against in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Forwards – Cristiano Ronaldo, Michail Antonio
Ronaldo is nursing an injury, but he has already declared that he wants to feature against Aston Villa, which is a good sign. United need to get back to winning ways, meaning the Portugal international should play a part in both of his team’s fixtures.
Antonio is out of form compared to his usual standards, but with Leeds having so many injury problems, we fancy him to score at the London Stadium.
Captain – Cristiano Ronaldo
