Nobody knows what day it is during the festive period, and there’s still more celebrating to do this weekend for the New Year.
The winter period is always chaotic for football fans and FPL players, but this season has been like no other.
The ongoing Covid-19 pandemic has caused carnage, and even though we tried to warn players a few weeks ago during Gameweek 17, we are no better off.
FPL is usually a fun experience, but those that take it a little more seriously have had it tough of late.
There have been countless postponements, fresh injuries, suspensions, own goals and server issues to deal with, and we are not even through the worst of it.
Gameweek 21 is on the horizon, and it looks like another problematic week ahead.
The Premier League are due to reschedule some of the cancelled games, but the announcement might come a little close to the GWK21 deadline.
There are further double gameweeks to come, with GWK22 set to be the most chaotic.
With that in mind, our best advice is to try and sit tight. For those that have both Free Hits available, use them wisely; it may be best to target GWK22, while some teams may not play this weekend – Leicester vs Norwich and Southampton vs Newcastle are both in doubt at the moment.
So at the time of writing, we do not know what teams are due to play twice and when the FPL gods will announce it.
With that in mind, we have picked out a Free Hit team of the week – and we will likely do the same again in GWK22. From GWK23, it will be back to normal, with our regular squad hopefully getting you to the top of your mini-leagues.
Goalkeeper – David de Gea
The Manchester United stopper is due to play Wolves in GWK21, a team that are not known for their goalscoring exploits. United are also expected to play twice in GWK22, meaning De Gea is an excellent long-term pick, with the likes of Burnley, Southampton, Leeds and Watford all on the horizon.
Defenders – Sergio Reguilon, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Diogo Dalot, Joao Cancelo
Reguilon’s attacking play means he has a good chance of picking up points, while Cancelo and TAA are also still part of our team due to their potential high ceiling.
Both players have the ability to pick up assists and more, and playing without them means FPL users could fall behind their rivals.
Like De Gea, Dalot looks a good pick for the week due to Wolves’ lack of firepower, and United are worth backing to win to nil at 7/5.
Midfielders – Son Heung-Min, Diogo Jota, Phil Foden, Jarrod Bowen
Son looks a shrewd pick for the coming weeks, with Spurs set to play twice in GWK22. This week he faces Watford, and with Claudio Ranieri’s team fragile at the back, he could haul for those that keep the faith.
Jota faces an inconsistent Chelsea side, while Foden looks to have regained the trust of Pep Guardiola ahead of a meeting with Arsenal.
Bowen could have two double gameweeks on the horizon, and he makes his way into the team after picking up two assists last weekend.
Strikers – Michail Antonio, Cristiano Ronaldo
The favourable fixtures mean Antonio and Ronaldo lead our attack. Antonio could face Crystal Palace and Norwich in GWK21 before then tackling Leeds.
Ronaldo is in a similar position, with Wolves, Brighton, Aston Villa potentially up next for the Portuguese ace, and he should have what it takes to reward players with several goals.
