Our tipster has a race-by-race look at Thursday afternoon’s Newcastle card.
11.40 – MansionBet Maiden Hurdle (Div I) (2m)
Paddy The Horse and Rory And Me were both winners in bumpers last season and will be fancied to have success over hurdles in the early stages of the campaign. Those two horses may have to wait for another day as DONNY BOY is the one to beat here. He won his sole start in a bumper by an impressive 14 lengths. There is likely to be much more to come from this horse.
Selection: Donny Boy
12.10 – MansionBet Maiden Hurdle (Div II) (2m)
This looks the weaker of the two divisions of this maiden hurdle and it is a great opportunity for LUPUS REGEM to get off the mark at the second attempt over obstacles. The bumper winner was disappointing at Uttoxeter (2m) last time out. He can bounce back with a much better display.
Selection: Lupus Regem
12.40 – Follow MansionBet On Twitter Handicap Hurdle (2m)
Gamesters Icon and Muhtamar have shown enough ability to win a race at this level and should be in the mix at the finish. However, preference goes to ANNIES PRAYER who is one of the most unexposed runners in this competitive field. He has hit the frame on his last two starts over hurdles and he should improve once again.
Selection: Annies Prayer
1.10 – MansionBet Bet £10 Get £20 Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (2m4½f)
GOODTIMES BADTIMES produced a much better performance last time out at Kelso (2m5f) in what was his first start since having a wind-op. The form of that race has worked out well. The handicapper has eased him 2lb in the ratings, so he has a great chance of breaking his maiden at the seventh attempt.
Selection: Goodtimes Badtimes
1.45 – MansionBet Faller Insurance Handicap Chase (2m7½f)
Dragonfruit and ASCOT DE BRUYERE have the pick of the form this season, and both come into this race with strong claims. The latter is favoured as he is a C&D winner. James Ewart’s runner can build upon his third-place finish at this course last month.
Selection: Ascot De Bruyere
2.20 – Back A Winner With MansionBet Novices’ Limited Handicap Chase (2m½f)
On paper this is a match-up between PAY THE PIPER and Cornerstone Lad. The former does have a victory over fences, and he chased home Fiddlerontheroof in a Listed race at Carlisle back in October. He should be able to record his second chase success.
Selection: Pay The Piper
2.50 – MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Novices’ Hurdle (2m6f)
Captain Quint and Crystal Glory both made a winning start over hurdles and will need to carry a penalty here as they bid to keep up their 100% records. There was very little wrong with CONTEMPLATEMYFAITH’s hurdles debut at Lingfield (2m3½f) last month. He can take advantage of the weights to get his nose in front in this novice hurdle.
Selection: Contemplatemyfaith
3.20 – MansionBet Watch And Bet Open National Hunt Flat Race (2m)
The only filly in this bumper to end the card at Newcastle is MELVICH BAY and she will benefit from the weight allowance. Danny Brooke’s runner finished second on her debut at Hexham (2m). The horse which beat her that day has come out and won since. She gets the nod here over Clear White Light and Imperial Lord.
Selection: Melvich Bay
