Eleven of the 16 berths in the knock-out stages have already been claimed so the final matchday of the group stages is all about which five takes will take up the other places in the draw and who’ll finish first in each group.
Those already through and top of their group are Ajax, Bayern, Liverpool, Manchester City and Manchester United. They’ll be joined by Chelsea, Inter, Juventus, PSG, Real Madrid and Sporting CP in Friday’s Draw.
For 12 more teams it’s all to play for with AC Milan, Atalanta, Atlético, Barcelona, Benfica, Lille, Porto, Salzburg, Sevilla, Villarreal and Wolfsburg all vying to qualify from their groups.
That all means that there’s some homework to be done ahead of having a bet on tonight and tomorrow’s fixtures.
For example, in Group B Liverpool are 23/10 to win at the San Siro but they’re comfortably through and will utilise their squad in what is a busy month of nine matches for the Reds. That opens the door for Milan at even money. But the Rossoneri also need the gods to shine on them in Portugal to qualify. They need to win their own game but also need Porto and Atletico to draw in order to qualify. A tall order.
No such permutations in Group A where qualification has already been determined. The only issue to be resolved is which of RB Leipzig or Club Brugge will finish third and drop in to the Europa League. Both Man City and PSG will likely rest players so it’s anyone’s guess who’ll win the remaining two games in the group.
Things are even more clearcut in Group C where all four positions cannot change after matchday 6. Through are Ajax and Sporting. Dortmund have the consolation of the Europa League and Besiktas‘ European journey is over for another season.
The match at the Signal Iduna Park could be one worth focusing on. Dortmund felt hard done by in their 3-2 defeat to Bayern at the weekend but tonight’s game give Erling Haaland another opportunity to work his way back to full fitness. His scoring record in the Champions League is phonemenal and he’ll relish the chance to bag a goal or two against a Besiktas side that in awful form.
The Turkish side are ninth in the table and have won just one in nine in all competitions. It should be a comfortable win for the Germans. They’re 1/4 to win but add in Over 2 Dortmund Goals to boost it to 20/23 in a BetBuilder.
Group D sees Real Madrid and Inter battle it out for top spot in the Spanish capital. Real just need to avoid defeat to claim first place and the all important seeded position in the draw but Inter impressed at the weekend in a 3-0 win at Roma so could spring a minor surprise at 23/10.
On a night where the shackles are off for most teams we could see some goals. Over 1.5 goals in each game pays 3/1 at Bet365, while Over 2.5 is 42/1 and that could be worth a quid. Skybet go even money on there being 27+ goals scored across the eight games but last season’s matchday six games averaged 3.06 per match, while the three seasons prior to that saw 2.75, 3.13, 3.56 scored on average. We’d need 3.375 goals in each match for that bet to land so it’s best avoided at such a short price.
Super Singles

- Over 1.5 goals in all eight Champions League matches 3/1 Bet365
