KevMac delves into the lower reachesof Scottish football and picks out his best bets for today.
Dunfermline v Ayr Utd
THEY say laughter is the best medicine and that was certainly the case for Dunfermline last weekend as the arrival of John Hughes gave them a shot in the arm.
Larger-than-life Yogi branded his Pars “the laughing stock of Scottish football” after taking the reins from Peter Grant.
But the joke was on Inverness as Dunfermline came from behind to win 2-1 in the Highlands and record their first victory of the Championship season.
Hughes left Steven Whittaker and Greg Shields in charge but his presence around the dressing room put a smile back on faces.
And I was grinning too as both my bets came up with Billy Mckay scoring in a game that saw over 2.5 goals and cards.
The Pars now host Ayr today and another win should be enough to lift them off the bottom of the table.
The Honest Men are in dismal form, winning just one of their last eight, so the Dunfermline victory appeals at 19/20 (SBK).
Hughes is known for playing attractive football and that makes over 2.5 goals a decent shout as well at 11/10 with McBookie.
Kilmarnock v Arbroath
Leaders Kilmarnock delivered when I backed them for a win at Morton last week and they now host high-flying Arbroath.
Dick Campbell’s part-timers have drawn their last two games with struggling Hamilton and Queen of the South so that suggests they are losing momentum a bit.
I thought Killie would be pretty heavy favourites but they are 23/20 with Betfred which looks great value.
Partick Thistle v Hamilton
Partick Thistle have also soared into title contention with a six-game unbeaten run and have kept clean sheets in their last five.
Today the Jags host a Hamilton side who were battered 3-0 at home by Raith last weekend and Ian McCall’s men are just 4/6 with Betfred to win.
Over 2.5 goals looks the shout here and it’s 15/16 at SBK while Zak Rudden appeals for anytime scorer at 11/8 with McBookie.
Raith Rovers v Morton
Raith’s classy 10-game unbeaten run has fired them into the title hunt and Rovers are just 3/4 at SBK to beat Morton.
But Dario Zanatta is better value at 9/4 with McBookie for a goal.
Airdrieonians v Cove Rangers
Airdrie’s clash with Cove is the pick of the action in League One as the top two face off in Lanarkshire.
The bookies fancy a thriller with BTTS and over 2.5 goals both odds-on.
But it ended just 1-0 to Cove in the last meeting so I’m backing under 2.5 goals at 11/10 (Betfair).
Forfar Athletic v Cowdenbeath
In League Two, I’m combining a Forfar win over Cowdenbeath with over 2.5 goals and that bet pays 13/10 with McBookie.
Super Singles
- Kilmarnock to win (23/20, Betfred)
- Dario Zanatta anytime scorer (9/4, McBookie)
- Under 2.5 goals in Airdrie v Cove Rangers (11/10, Betfair)
McBookie Bet Builder
- Combining over 2.5 goals in Dunfermline with over 1.5 cards pays 120/100
