I’ve had a good week – starting with a five-timer at Musselburgh which was ideal! I had a bit of luck, and the horses ran great. One of the two that didn’t win whipped round at the start which cost him the race. I’ve had a few winners since so fingers crossed it continues in that vein.
I’m at Kelso tomorrow where I have six rides…
Saturday 6th November – Kelso
12.25pm – Mister Whitaker
He ran a nice race and just got beat last time out. He’s stepping up 2f to 2m6f tomorrow which shouldn’t be a problem. I’d like to think that with the benefit of that run and cheek pieces being back on, he’ll run very well and go close.
1pm – Ettila De Sivola
He’s a nice big horse – he won last year at Newcastle and then his form tailed off a little, but I’ve schooled him this year and he jumped really well at home. He’s in good form, got good experience and is getting 16lbs off the favourite, who’s first time over fences so I’d like to think he’ll be competitive. The trainer says he’s a different horse this year, so I’d like to think he’ll leave his recent runs behind him and will run well.
1.35pm – Sultans Pride
He won three last year and improved with every run. He’s a horse that will no doubt progress again this season. Obviously, it’s his first run, so I’m hoping he’s not going to need it, but whatever happens tomorrow I’m sure he’ll improve for it. He’s one to watch to go Novice chasing.
2.10pm – Amalfi Doug
He’s been a good old boy this year. He’s never run a bad race, won 2 and been placed several times. He ran well at Carlisle last time out over 3m2f although I didn’t really think he stayed, so I think this this trip is just about right for him (2m5f). Everything else is on their first run of the season so he has the fitness edge, but he has been busy, so we’ll have to see. He’s fit and well so I’m hopeful he’ll run a big race.
3.15pm – Rickety Gate
I rode him over 2m2f two starts ago which was a bit sharp for him, but he’s since been stepped up in trip and ran well for it but has obviously gone up in the handicap a bit for that. He’s running over 2mf tomorrow which should be a plus, and you’d like to think he’ll still be competitive in this type of race so I’m hoping he’ll run well.
3.50pm – Rose Of Siena
She was meant to run at Ayr a week/10days ago, but the trainer thought the ground was too quick so decided to wait with her. She was bred by her owners, is a nice filly and is showing the right signs at home. I’m hoping she’s not going to be too green on her first run. I think she’ll run well and if it’s not tomorrow, I think she’ll win a race very soon.
