Wednesday’s Football Bet of the Day see’s me focus on both the English Championship and the Champions League. I’ve picked a selection from each competition in which I fancy goals in to give us a nicely priced double.
Fulham vs Cardiff City
🏴 Championship
⏰ Wednesday 20th October, 19:45
Fulham host out of form Cardiff City at Craven Cottage on Wednesday evening. The hosts are now up to 3rd in the Championship, whereas Cardiff are languishing near the relegation zone in 20th.
After being defeated 4-1 at Coventry before the international break, Fulham bounced back with a 4-1 of their own, defeating near neighbours QPR at the Cottage. Fulham have a pretty good home record so far this season, winning 4/6. Fulham have scored in all six of those home games, scoring 14 which is the joint best record in the Championship. Fulham are the divisions top overall goalscorer’s, scoring 27 goals, with them scoring 2+ goals in 7/12.
Cardiff were thumped 3-0 by bitter rivals Swansea last time out to heap more pressure on Mick McCarthy. That’s now six defeats on the bounce for the Welsh side, with them conceding 15 goals in those defeats. Cardiff have only kept one clean all season and have the second worst defensive record, conceding 22 goals. Cardiff have lost all six matches against top half sides this season, conceding 14 goals.
Manchester United vs Atalanta
🇪🇺 Champions League
⏰ Wednesday 20th October, 20:00
Italian side Atalanta travel to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United on MD3. Atalanta currently sit on top of Group F with four points, while Manchester United sit in 3rd on three points.
After a shock 2-1 defeat to Young Boys on MD1, United bounced back with a 2-1 win of their own through a last gasp Cristiano Ronaldo winner against Villarreal. United come into this clash after suffering a disappointing 4-2 defeat against an out of form Leicester City side. Manchester United have struggled to keep clean sheets all season so far, keeping just one in their 11 competitive games, with them conceding in all six matches at Old Trafford. The Red Devil’s have scored in 9/11 games this season, scoring on 19 occasions.
Atalanta kicked off their Champions League campaign with a 2-2 draw away to Villarreal, before securing a vital 1-0 victory over Young Boys to put them top of the group. In Serie A, Atalanta swatted aside newly promoted Empoli at the weekend, winning 1-4. Atalanta have scored in nine of their 10 matches in all competitions this season, including in each of their last eight. Overall, Atalanta have scored 17 goals this season but they’ve also conceded 12 goals, keeping only three clean sheets.
Bet of the Day
Cardiff have been on a shocking run of late and the last thing they need is a fixture away to 3rd placed Fulham. The Cottagers are off the back of a 4-1 victory over QPR and are also the Championship’s top scorers. With an in form Aleksandar Mitrović leading the line, Fulham should be able to score at least twice against a Cardiff side severely short of confidence. Atalanta will fancy their chances of causing Manchester United leaky defence problems at Old Trafford and I fancy them to at least get on the scoresheet. United do have plenty of attacking quality of their own and we should see goals here, I’m therefore backing both sides to score.
- Fulham to Score 2+
- Manchester United vs Atalanta – Both Teams to Score
- Double Pays 29/20 (William Hill)
