The PGA Tour continues this week with the Shriners Children’s Open at TPC Summerlin, Las Vegas, Nevada.
The 144 field will all be competing on this par 71 desert track for the title and the $1.26m winner’s cheque.
Martin Laird returns to defend his title, winning on the second hole after a playoff at last year’s event.
This will be a birdie fest with almost every hole representing a birdie or better opportunity.
The weather is forecast to be sunny and warm throughout with only gentle breezes to contend with.
This event will be screened on Sky Sports Golf with live coverage starting at 2.30pm GMT on Thursday.
Last week we were the bookies nemesis yet again as my main selection Sam Burns won the Sanderson Farms at an advised 16/1.
He has been all over my radar recently and I’ve previously mentioned he would win again soon after collecting us decent each way money at prices up to 80/1 over the past few weeks. We will be hearing much more about this talented 25yr old kid from Louisiana, he certainly has a bright future ahead.
It doesn’t end there, Corey Conners won the customary matchbet Nap seeing off Sergio Garcia with ease and over on the European Tour, Tyrell Hatton was unfortunate not to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship but in the end, had to settle for the runners-up prize but still a tidy profit at the recommended 18/1 Each way.

Sam Burns
For my first and main selection I’m going to single out this kid again who’s all over my radar, Sam Burns 25/1 EW Bet365.
He’s actually a better price this week than last. If those bookies were watching just how well Burns struck the ball last week then maybe they’d trim down those odds a tad. Last week at Sanderson Farms this talented kid gained fifteen strokes on the field tee to green and found sixty three of seventy two greens in regulation, that’s just staggering.
I’m thinking that he will come here even more full of confidence after his second PGA victory at Sanderson Farms last weekend.
Burns had a month off prior to last week and the batteries seem to be recharged and this kid is ready to make a name for himself.
Now I know it’s very unusual for a player to double up the week after winning a tournament but if you seen Burns play last week then you’ll know where I’m coming from. If he puts in a display like that again this week then he will be the one they all have to beat for sure so the 25/1 on offer just now looks huge.
With two PGA titles now in the bag the other being the Valspar Championship he won back in May this year, Burns is the new kid on the block without a doubt and there will be many more titles on the CV in the not to distant future and I don’t want to miss out.
Take Sam Burns to make it two victories in a week and if not winning then certainly contending from start to finish for the each way value.
Will Zalatoris
For my next selection I’m going to advise another player who I selected last week, Will Zalatoris 25/1 EW Betfair.
The 25yr old from San Francisco played well last week at Sanderson Farms, finishing 14th and has three Top 20 finishes in his last four events. As mentioned, 4th last week, 11th at he’s previous event, the Fortinet Championship, and an even better T8th at the WGC FedEx St Jude Invitational.
Zalatoris finished 5th at this event last year so clearly enjoys this desert lay out and can get that first and well deserved, elusive maiden PGA victory in the bag this weekend.
This year’s runner up at The Masters to Hideki Matsuyama and also T8th at this years USPGA Championship can only mean one thing, this talented kid is too good not to win an event soon.
Zalatoris was named Rookie of the Year by the PGA for a reason and he could prove why he is so highly rated with a victory at the Shriners Children’s Open to break his duck on the PGA Tour after coming so close on many occasions.
Scottie Scheffler
For my next pick I’m liking the look of Scottie Scheffler 22/1 EW Bet365.
The 25yr old from Dallas, Texas is making his first appearance after the Ryder Cup heroics at Whistling Straits.
With seven Top 20 finishes in his last eleven events, ignore Scheffler at your peril.
Four of those Top 20 finishes were in the Top 10 with three of those being majors. T8th at the PGA Championship, T7th at the US Open and T8th at The Open Championship at Royal St George’s, these are all in the past few months.
Scheffler is another youngster looking to win that elusive maiden PGA Title and it’s going to happen sooner rather than later.
A recent runner up at the WGC Dell Technologies Matchplay event suggests to me that a win is long overdue and Scheffler could be well on his way to breaking that duck at the Shriners Children’s Open this weekend in Las Vegas.
Paul Casey v Marc Lieshman
For my final pick it’s the customary matchbet and this week I’m going to advise Paul Casey to get the better of Marc Lieshman 10/11 Nap Betfair.
