Matchday Two of this season’s Champions League will get underway on Tuesday, with the highlight of the evening’s action set to come at the Parc des Princes when Paris Saint-Germain host Manchester City in Group A.
The contest in the French capital is one of eight taking place in the Champions League across Tuesday, and it will also be a repeat of last season’s semi-final, where City prevailed in both legs.
More City Success in the French Capital
City appear to be over their early-season wobbles, as they have won six of their last seven games across all competitions, a sequence that includes their 6-3 thrashing of RB Leipzig in their Champions League opener.
Pep Guardiola’s side also produced arguably their best result and performance of the season when winning at Chelsea in the Premier League on Saturday, while their 4-1 aggregate success over PSG last term will still be fresh in the memory.
The pressure will be on PSG after they could only draw their group stage opener against Club Brugge, and while they boast a 100 per-cent record in Ligue 1 so far this term, their results have very much outweighed their level of performance.
PSG have never beaten City in five previous meetings between the two sides, losing each of the last three, with another success for the English side on Tuesday looking good value at 7/5
.
Milan to Compound Atleti’s Recent Struggles
AC Milan’s return to the Champions League begun with a spirited, but ultimately fruitless defeat at Liverpool, although that is the only loss the Rossoneri have suffered all season and they will come into Tuesday’s clash with Atletico Madrid having won each of their last two matches in Serie A.
By contrast, Atleti have won just once in four games, suffering a shock 1-0 defeat at struggling Alaves in La Liga at the weekend, while their recent record in the Champions League is also poor, as they have won just two of their last 10 matches in the competition.
Another defeat could be on the cards for the Spanish champions on Tuesday, with Milan also likely to benefit from a raucous home support, as they are set to host their first match in the Champions League in over seven years.
Home advantage has certainly worked well for Milan this season, as they have won all three of their matches at the San Siro to date by an aggregate score of 8-1, and Stefano Pioli’s side can be backed at 17/10
to add another victory on Tuesday.
Shakhtar Look Good Value to Avoid Defeat
Shakhtar Donetsk suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat to tournament debutants Sheriff Tiraspol on Matchday One, but they have won three on the bounce domestically since that disappointment, scoring an impressive 12 goals in the process.
Inter were also beaten in their opening match of this season’s Champions League, as a late Rodrygo strike handed Real Madrid a 1-0 success at the Giuseppe Meazza.
That means Tuesday’s match in Kyiv has taken on greater significance, and these are two sides that no each other well after meeting in last season’s group stage when both encounters finished goalless.
Shakhtar also finished two points above Inter in the final group standings last term, and while they are underdogs heading into Tuesday’s fixture, they do look tempting value to get something from the match, with the Home Win/Draw double chance available at 33/20
.
