Hands up if you had Brighton to be top of the Premier League after six matches?
Nope? Well, that’s the prospect facing the Seagulls tonight if they can win at Selhurst Park!
The Crystal Palace / Brighton ‘M23 derby’ doesn’t exactly rival El Clasico but it adds a bit of spice to tonight’s Monday Night Live match especially with top of the table at stake for the visitors.
Graham Potter’s side have had a terrific start to the season but to be fair, the fixture computer has been kind to them and their 12-point haul has come thanks to wins over Burnley, Watford, Brentford and an out-of-sorts Leicester City.
Palace are unbeaten in the last four meetings and have lost just once in seven clashes at home between the sides. Patrick Viera can’t be too unhappy with his start to the season despite taking just five points from five games. He’ll look to a good 2-2 draw at West Ham and a brilliant 3-0 win over Spurs as positive signs that his side will do OK this season. A win over high-flying Brighton would put a very positive spin on to their first half-dozen games.
The Eagles are 11/5 to win, Brighton favourites at 7/5. There’s no doubt that Brighton have done well so far but it’s arguable they’re in a false position and theur run of form can’t continue, whether Palace will be the ones to bring it to an end remains to be seen but 11/5 feels generous in a ‘derby’ match.
Wilfried Zaha could be the man to watch. He has scored seven goals against Brighton and is 12/5 to make that eight with a goal tonight. Former Celt Odsonne Edouard bagged two goals in a matter of minutes on his debut and if he starts for the Eagles he could be value to net at 11/5.
