Domestic duties are back all over Europe and in Germany, no less than four clubs swing back into action looking to preserve unbeaten records.
Leverkusen, Bayern Munich and Freiburg all took two victories and a draw from their opening three fixtures, but it is surprise leaders Wolfsburg who set the pace on a full nine points.
Hour of the Wolf?
Having survived a relegation play-off as recently as 2018, fans of the Wolves will be relishing their side’s start to proceedings under new boss Mark Van Bommel. The former Bayern midfielder replaced Oliver Glasner at the helm back in June and has so far overseen wins over Bochum, Hertha Berlin and RB Leipzig.
Winless Greuther Furth – stuck in 16th on the back of one draw and a pair of defeats – welcome them on Saturday at 14:30, with Van Bommel’s men at 5/9 to take a fourth successive win.
The newly promoted hosts have shipped nine goals so far this term and Wolfsburg’s talismanic attacker Wout Weghorst – fresh after an international break where he spent the Netherlands’ trio of games on the bench – will be looking to take full advantage. Over 3.5 goals can be found at 31/20.
Redemption for Rose’s Dortmund?
Dortmund’s defeat to Freiburg on matchday two came as an unwelcome surprise to a side hoping to finally bring an end to the Bayern Munich dynasty, but Saturday’s meeting with Bayer Leverkusen provides Marco Rose’s side with a prime opportunity to right those wrongs.
A win for BVB – priced at 6/5 – would see Borussia leapfrog their rivals and put pressure on Bayern ahead of their trip to Leipzig on Sunday.
Though contrast can be found in their early season fortunes, both teams have been among the goals with nine apiece. Leverkusen hit four past Borussia Monchengladbach on their second league outing of the season, and another four past Augsburg on their third; Dortmund hammered five past Eintracht on the opening day, before edging out Hoffenheim 3-2 last time out.
Both teams to score is a logical choice at 20/49, while 6 goals or more can be found at 5/1.
Gladbach Back on Track?
At the other end of the table, a worrying start for Borussia Monchengladbach sees the Prussians hovering precariously close to the relegation zone.
An eye-catching opening draw against Bayern suggested promise, but Adi Hutter’s side were brought crashing back down to earth at Leverkusen and were pipped 2-1 by Union Berlin before the pause. Arminia Bielefeld – who sit 12th after three draws – are their guests on Sunday evening.
A home win, at 4/9, would serve to kick-start Gladbach’s campaign as they look to mount a return to European football in 2022/23, but with both sides having scored just two league goals so far this season, under 1.5 goals in the match at 16/5 could be the way to go.
