I was riding in the final leg of the Racing League last night at Newcastle and our team, Team Thoroughbid couldn’t quite hold onto the lead we had. We finished 3rd. It was great fun to be a part of it and it was good to have a few winners and contribute!
Friday – Pontefract
5:00 – PAPA COCKTAIL
I’m thrilled to pick up this ride for Tom Clover. He might look like he’s gone off the boil a bit since impressing on his first two starts but Papa Cocktail (11/8
) was pretty unfortunate at York on his latest start. He completely fluffed the start and lost a few lengths; he then was on the wrong side of the track and didn’t enjoy a smooth passage. He stayed on nicely and I’m sure he is a better horse than his form/rating suggests. He carries a penalty today but that shouldn’t be enough to stop him if he can produce his best.
5:30 – SIR MIN
SIR MIN (10/3
) is a horse having his first run for his new yard having moved from Ian Williams. He’s not been unfancied in the market in his four runs so far, so he has clearly been showing a bit at home. He unseated his rider on his last start, so fingers crossed I stay on board tomorrow and he can get off to a winning start for Charlie Fellowes.
6:00 – LITTLE JO
LITTLE JO (33/1
) has been a really fun horse for Karen Tutty. I don’t know a huge amount about him to be honest but he has a good record for the yard having won four races to date. Some of his better runs have been with soft in the description though.
Saturday – Ascot
2:35 – BEAUTIFUL SECRET
BEAUTIFUL SECRET (SP
) ran a really nice race on debut where she finished 2nd under Pat Cosgrave when only beaten a neck. She showed plenty of ability that day and knew her job, so if there is any more improvement to come from that run, then she will be there or thereabouts.
3:45 – VIA SERENDIPITY
VIA SERENDIPITY (5/1
) is an old favourite of mine. I’m thrilled to be back riding him! He looks like he has plenty in his favour here. He has gone up 4lbs for winning at Windsor and that doesn’t look too harsh. I hope he can maintain that form and momentum. It’s not the biggest field in the world and I think he has a good chance of winning again.
Stay safe,
Hayley
