The venue of many magical moments on the PGA Tour, who this year will take the richest prize in golf? The field is stacked with big names, all seemingly making a run at taking the 10 million prize home… The playoffs have reduced the field down to the top 30 reaching the final, so it’s hard to really say who’s going to win.
The format is an interesting one with the current ranking positions allowing an advantage for those high in the order of merit. The current leader of the rankings starts with the tournament at -10, while the player scrapping through to the final in 30th position starts on Level Par.
As it’s the same venue every year, my bet would be on those who have done well there in the past. So personally, I think Jon Rahm or Rory Mcllroy will be the guys to beat. A lot has been made of Bryson DeChambeau’s game this year and rightly so given how he is bombing his way around golf courses, however I don’t think East Lake designed by Bobby Jones is one you can over power. It will be interesting to see how he approaches this week’s venue…
Riding the Wave of Good Form
Moving on to my own game, I am riding my own wave of good form. Following on from my Andalusian Tour Championships performance, I went to Estonia to play in the Euronics Invitational Pro Am. Posting scores of 74 and 68 in what can best be described as horrificly windy conditions, I finished 2nd in a fantastically well-run tournament on the coast of western Estonia at Parnu Bay Links.
Today I played in the Marbella Pro Golf Tour event in preparation for Alps de Andalucía next week, making 9 birdies and posting 65 which saw me take the victory. A big contribution towards my recent success has been my driving (yes bombs have been sent!!) having switched to the new Tsi3 Titleist driver, along with that I the technical flaws that were hindering me are less apparent now due to a driving drill I’ve been doing. For more info on that, check out my latest Instagram post to see what it is!
I’ll be updating you on my progress in the coming weeks, lots to talk about especially in the build up to the Ryder Cup so stay tuned!
