Celtic got the week off to a winning start for Scottish clubs in Europe with a hard-earned 2-0 win over AZ Alkmaar at Celtic Park last night.
That landed our 13/10 Super Single and well done to anyone who took the 15/8 we suggested on the Hoops to be winning at the break too.
Things are about to get a whole lot tougher for some of the Scottish clubs in action on Thursday.
Aberdeen have made the arduous journey to Baku for their first leg match against Qarabag. Boss Stephen Glass paid the price for prioritising this match ahead of Scottish League Cup at the weekend when his much-changed side were dumped out the cup by Raith Rovers. That’s piled a bit of pressure on the Dons who are 2/1 to record an away win.
Aberdeen aren’t best pleased about the quality of the pitch they’ll play on and it doesn’t look condusive to free-flowing football so it could be a scrappy affair in Azerbaijan. It’s no surprise to see under 2.5 Goals at 8/13 and the Dons will be happy to get back on the long-flight home still in tie ahead of the return leg at Pittodrie.
Aberdeen fan Mark Walker is in the hotseat for our match preview and he reckons there’s something in this game for his team.
St Johnstone acquited themselves well in the first leg of their last round tie with Galatasaray but were outclassed in the end by the Turkish giants. They face another tricky proposition in the shape of an LASK Linz side who have held their own in the Europa League group stages the last couple of seasons.
The Saints will look to keep things tight again in the first leg but after rattling six past Vojvodina the Austrians will be difficult to keep at bay. KevMac finds three potential betting angles for us in his match preview.
At Ibrox Rangers shouldn’t have too much trouble from Armenian side Alashkert as they bid to make it to the group stages of the Europa League after crashing out of the Champions League last week. That was a major blow for the Scottish Champions and it’d be a major surprise if the Gers failed to qualify for a second time.
The Bookies aren’t taking any chances and have Steven Gerrard’s side at just 1/8 to win on Thursday so we’ll dip in to one our favourite BetBuilders and take Rangers to score Over 1 goal and Alashkert to score Under 1 Goal at even money with Bet365.
The Gers enjoyed a brilliant defensive record last season, especially at Ibrox and with one eye on their meeting with Celtic a week on Sunday they’ll be keen to put this tie to bed as best they can tonight.
