The Premier League got off to a flying start on Saturday with 25 goals scored in seven matches and we could be in for a few more on Sunday.
Match of the day is in north London where Man City begin their title defence at Spurs. Harry Kane has been at the centre of rampant transfer speculation about a move up the M1 for upwards of £120m to Pep Guardiola’s side but the England striker looks set to conveniently miss this afternoon’s clash for Spurs after only returning back to training on Friday.
There’s no doubt Tottenham aren’t the same team without Kane (they’ve only won five of their past 17 Premier League matches without him) and new manager Nuno Espírito Santo would no doubt prefer the saga to be resolved one way or another ASAP.
City may have lost out in last week’s Communiy Shield to Leicester but they’ll be primed to start with a bang today and should Kane not feature, look a solid bet at 7/10. Despite being without De Bruyne and Foden, City still have plenty of attacking options and are more than capable of notching a couple on the way to victory. A City win combined with them scoring 2+ Goals pays 20/21 on a Bet365 BetBuilder.
It speaks volumes for West Ham’s campaign last season that they’re as short as 23/20 favs to win away from home on the opening weekend of the season. But St James’ Park isn’t a happy hunting ground for the Hammers who have won there only twice on their last 17 visits.
The Magpies finished last season well, picking up 16 points from their final eight matches and won both encounters with West Ham last season including a 2-0 win at the London Stadium on the opening day. All things considered Newcastle look the value of the two sides at 23/10 (Ladbrokes).
In Scotland, Hearts will face a different animal from the one they beat 2-1 just a matter of weeks ago when they visit Celtic Park. The Hoops have seemingly been transformed since that defeat, winning three games and scoring 13 goals playing high-tempo incisive football.
Expect them to exact some revenge on the high-flying Jambos and like City, Celtic can be backed to win and score 2+ at 8/11.
Aberdeen, Hibernian and St Johnstone are all in action too following their European adventures on Thursday.
The Dons look the most attractive at 17/20 to get past Raith Rovers but that’ll be dependent on seeing some team news. Stephen Glass opted to rest a few of his first-teamers last weekend at Livingston with a view to their Europe Conference League tie and with a tough trip to Azerbaijan looming he may do the same again.
Hibs, who were eliminated from Europe on Thursday, will be keen not to exit two competitions in a matter of days at home to Kilmarnock. Despite now being a Championship side Killie still have a decent squad but the Hibees should be too strong at 7/10.
If you’re looking for an upset it might come at Gayfield Park. League Cup holders St Johnstone were given a bit of a runaround by Galatasaray on Thursday and Arbroath won’t be no pushovers. That said, you cannot question the Saints’ cup credentials and it would take a brave man to back against them at 11/2 (Bet365).
Super Single
- Man City to win & to score 2+ Goals 20/21 (Bet365 BetBuilder).
