Scottish Football guru, Mark Walker, marks our card for this weekend’s best bets in Scotland where we’re down to the last 16 in the Scottish League Cup
Aidrieonians v Falkirk
FALKIRK can win their second League One game of the season with victory at Airdrie on Saturday.
Paul Sheerin’s new charges had a troubled start to the season after isolation issues, but still managed to draw 1-1 at one of the title favourites Cove Rangers.
They followed that up with a win over Peterhead and a bloodless success in the Challenge Cup against East Kilbride and will make the trip to Lanarkshire in high spirits.
One time Celtic prospect Aiden Nesbitt has started the season well for them and former Hearts kid Aidan Keena got off the mark for the Bairns in midweek.
They face a Diamonds side who were thumped at home to Montrose before blowing a two-goal lead at Dumbarton by conceding twice in the last ten minutes and Falkirk can add to their troubles.
Montrose v Peterhead
MONTROSE can beat Peterhead at Links Park in another League One clash.
The job done by Stewart Petrie at the Angus club has been remarkable, but his name never seems to come up when bigger jobs become available.
They started their season with a fantastic win at Airdrie and should have had two wins out of two last week before conceding a last minute leveller against Clyde.
But Montrose continue to fly under the radar somewhat and they yet are dark horses in the promotion race and could yet give the likes of Cove, Falkirk and Queen’s Park a run for their money.
Jim McInally’s Blue Toon side don’t tend to travel too well outside of their Balmoor Stadium and could struggle against Montrose.
Dundee v Motherwell
MOTHERWELL look overpriced for the visit to Dundee in the League Cup.
Dundee were absolutely crushed by a Celtic team who had been struggling last week and that must be a huge worry even this early in the season for James McPake.
You wonder how much damage that will do to their confidence, even though any points against the Old Firm is a bonus.
Graham Alexander’s men have arguably been unfortunate to only collect a point from their opening two games.
They matched Hibs at home only to lose out and were denied three points by a fine display by St Johnstone keeper Zander Clark last week in Perth.
They love a cup run and Dundee will be prioritising survival and the 7/4 should be backed.
