5.15 – Bazuka Handicap (6f)
Little Sunflower was better than ever when scoring over 7f here eight days ago and is respected under a penalty bidding for the follow up but KNOCKABOUT QUEEN is preferred. Tony Carroll’s charge is 5lb below her last winning mark on turf and both efforts this season – at Windsor and over this C&D – have suggested she is ready to strike again soon. This could be the day.
Selection: Knockabout Queen @ 7/1
5.45 – Diomed EBF Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (6f)
Princess Shabnam was runner-up in a Newmarket maiden on her second start last month and has an obvious chance of going one better here. She sets the standard from those that have run. Red Joan is capable of better with experience but Frankel filly PERFECT NEWS represents an in-form William Haggas team and his 2YO newcomers are often ready to shine first time out.
Selection: Perfect News @ 4/1
6.15 – Freederm Handicap (1m2f)
A pair of blinkers could have a positive effect on MAHANAKHON POWER for the Mick Appleby team. The gelded son of Gleneagles is a former course winner this summer and was in good tune last time when second at Nottingham. He’s proven over further and can offer more still having joined this trainer in the winter.
Selection: Mahanakhon Power @ 4/1
6.45 – 4Head Handicap (1m6f)
An open contest for the stayers, and one in which Flying Standard should again have a major say after two runner-up finishes in his last three starts, but preference here is for MOONLIT NIGHT. She was a five-race maiden with Sir Michael Stoute but showed promise at Thirsk on first start for George Boughey, as she looked to come with a challenge late on only to run of room. First-time cheekpieces are on here and better things are possible for the lightly-raced daughter of Sea The Stars.
Selection: Moonlit Night @ 3/1
7.15 – Aeropak Fillies’ Handicap (1m)
Elvrika is surely better than she showed at Beverley last time out and may well rebound from that disappointing run but SWEET ENOUGH could be hard to stop on handicap bow for John & Thady Gosden. She comfortably won a Newmarket maiden (7f, good to firm) recently when well-backed to do so and has more potential moving into this sphere and going up to the mile.
Selection: Sweet Enough @ 11/10
7.45 – Ibuleve Fillies’ Handicap (7f)
Flibbertigibbet was successful over C&D last-time-out but is 4lb higher now and probably facing a tougher challenge. CHESHIRE PLAN meanwhile landed a turf handicap over this distance at Lingfield nine days ago under claimer Gavin Ashton and she did so with plenty in hand. She’s got a 6lb penalty to shoulder but Roger Varian’s Invincible Spirit could be more than up to it.
Selection: Cheshire Plain @ 11/8
8.15 – Your Mortgage Solutions 20th Anniversary Handicap (5f)
A quality finale with lots of these in good form. Haveoneyerself and Expert Opinion were winners last time while Clashaniska, Dark Side Prince and SHESADABBER all arrive in good heart on the back of good efforts. The last-named was collared close home at Hamilton over this trip at the start of July, her first run since October, and could follow last year’s pattern of winning second time back.
Selection: Shesadabber @ 7/1
