Back in our week three preview we spoke about how Misfits were looking strong in the first place but worried if it could be maintained. Amazingly, Misfits are still standing strong at the top spot, with a one-game gap between themselves and second-placed sides Rogue and Fnatic. The other shock has been that G2 Esports has dropped to joint-fourth, having lost 3 games already in the Summer Split. The week three loss to Fnatic was also a big shock.
Week four brings a new host of top matches, and some more tests for Misfits, while MAD Lions face back-to-back top-placed sides as they look to claim a second title.
Misfits v MAD Lions
It’s been a bit of a weird Summer Split at the top of the table. With all the talk of MAD Lions going for a second title, Rogue looking for revenge, G2 Esports bouncing back, and Fnatic rebuilding. It seems we all just forgot about Misfits. Even going into week four, more of the talk is about the aforementioned sides than it is about our current top spot side Misfits.
MAD Lions have already dropped three matches thus far, and with a weekend that features games against Misfits and Rogue, it could get a lot worse for the Spring Split Champions. For the series, you can pick up Misfits for 13/20, and it looks like a deal too good to miss. While MAD Lions are understandably favourites, it comes to a point where the form table starts to tell a story, and maybe Misfits are worth backing.
G2 Esports v Excel Esports
It’s not been the Summer Split that G2 Esports had expected. While we’re only three weeks in, having lost three matches already, it’s a slippery start for the former LEC and MSI champions. While it hasn’t been the start G2 Esports were expected, they’ll expect, and need to get back at it this weekend. Excel hasn’t been in good form, either. With a 2-5 record, they should be an easy side for G2 Esports to take down, especially in their current form.
For this one, we have to give it to G2 Esports. They should be a safe bet despite recent performances. This is less to do with G2, and more to do with Excel Esports. A side that once again looks set to miss out on Playoffs already, despite a great win against Fnatic. Excel won’t be a pushover, especially given G2 Esports’ more erratic games of the past few weeks.
Rogue v MAD Lions
In a rematch of the Spring Split final, we find our two sides in vastly different situations. Whilst Rogue is back pushing the title from their usual second-place spot, MAD Lions find themselves down in joint-fourth and in need of a good double-winning weekend. Considering the fixtures they play, however, that might be easier said than done.
The form table would suggest Rogue have the upper hand, but MAD Lions has a good record against Rogue, and they’ll want to utilise that to get back on track in Spring. For us, we’re going for the slight outsider again, with MAD Lions at 21/20. For us, it comes down to the head to head and the mental advantage will be with MAD Lions as they look to climb the table.
