England v Germany
Although England lacked a little cutting edge in the final third, their defence looked extremely assured and although Jordan Pickford was called into action on a number of occasions, they rarely looked like collapsing. Gareth Southgate must now find the balance between defence and attack as he prepares for this round of 16 clash.
The Three Lions have shown their attacking potential in flashes, with Bakayo Saka and Jack Grealish injecting some life into proceedings against the Czechs. With Raheem Sterling being the only England player to have found the net so far, Southgate needs his other attacking options to come to the fore.
The former Middlesbrough manager appears reluctant to unleash the likes of Jadon Sancho, and his conservatism may count prevent England from winning this clash inside 90 minutes.
Germany have shown their attacking ability at the tournament so far, however, Joachim Low’s look susceptible at the back and were caught out by Hungary on two occasions. They are tough to beat, but they can be exposed at the back.
Although the word ‘penalties’ is likely to leave the majority of England fans quivering, spot-kicks may be required in order to separate these two sides.
1-1 Draw (90 Mins) | 11/2
Sweden v Ukraine
Sweden topped Group E courtesy of a late winner against Poland. Janne Andersson’s side managed to negotiate the group stage with relative ease and are yet to be defeated at Euro 2020. The manager is a pragmatic individual, and although this sometimes makes their games a tough watch, his teams tend to be extremely tough to beat.
Andersson’s biggest conundrum comes in the final third, and he may opt for a re-jig ahead of this round of 16 clash. The talented Dejan Kulusevski may be given a start here, whilst Emil Forsberg may be pushed further forward.
Sweden’s defence has been excellent so far, and although Robert Lewandowski managed to find a way through, they should have a far more comfortable evening against Ukraine.
Andriy Shevchenko’s side snuck through as the fourth best third-placed side and although they managed to score twice against the Netherlands, they looked bereft of ideas against a defensively-adept Austria.
2-0 Sweden | 11/1
