It’s US Open week! Considered the toughest test in professional golf and having seen some players social media posts this week, Torrey Pines will be a brute…
Admittedly, the week won’t be the same without the Tiger, but the recent drama and spats between the defending champion (Bryson DeChambeau) and the ‘major man’ of recent times (Brooks Koepka) have created quite the stir around the world of golf. Sadly, the USGA didn’t pair them together for Rounds 1 and 2, however let’s hope the golfing gods pair them together for the weekend.
Given the reputation Torrey Pines has, it’s been 12 years since the venue hosted the US Open. Remembered for Tiger winning on 1 leg via a sudden death play-off, this time around I think there will be just as much drama.
Experience Will Count at Torrey
Personally, I think the players to look out for are those that have done well there in past, the PGA Tour hosts an event at Torrey Pines once a year and so the players know it very well.
Jon Rahm (17/2
) won his first professional event at Torrey, and provided he can provide some negative Covid tests I think he will feature.
Along with Rahm, I think Dustin Johnson (18/1
) will be in contention, his length off the tee and being a previous winner of the US Open shows he knows how to get it done. Others coming off recent good performances and ones to look out for are Tyrell Hatton (50/1
) alongside Xander Schauffele (16/1
).
One outsider I would go for is Higgo Garrick (50/1
), who is taking the world by storm right now.
Either way, I think the week will be a great watch! Drama and bogeys guaranteed!
