Scotland were handed a reality Czech at Hampden Park on Monday when Patrik Schick’s double dealt a hammer blow to Steve Clarke’s side’s chance of progressing to the last 16.
All is not lost however, but with games against England and Croatia to come the odds are stacked against the Scots who are 11/2 to qualify.
Poland’s campaign also started with defeat. Having drawn level with Slovakia the Poles were reduced to 10 men and eventully lost 2-1 – a result that leaves them bottom of Group E. In the same pool Spain couldn’t break down a Swedish rearguard, delivering the tournament’s first 0-0 draw.
The ‘Group of F’ is the last to get going on Tuesday and with France, Germany and Portugal all making their bow we could see the eventual winners in action.
France v Germany has been the stand-out tie of the group stages since the draw was made. The bookies can’t separate the sides by much with both available at 17/10 in various places.
Recent form would suggest that France have the edge but of course the match will be played at the Allianz Arena in Munich in front of a minimum of 14,500 fans. Home advantage hasn’t proven to be overly influential in the tournament so far with Russia, Denmark, Scotland and Spain all failing to record a win on their own turf so far.
There’s no doubting the talent in that French squad and 17/10 might be as big a price as we’ll get on them all tournament and is worth snapping up against a German side that that have suffered a few shock results recently.
Hungary semmingly have an impossible task in front of them to qualify to qualify from Group F. The Mighty Magyars host Portugal at the Puskas Arena in Budapest in the early evening kick-off.
Portugal should land the spoils at 4/9 given the quality they have at their disposal butthe Hungarians may not be the whipping boys many expect.
Cristiano Ronaldo is chasing down Ali Daei’s international scoring record and is just five goals short of his 109-goal haul. The Juve striker will be going all out to take that record and is a backable 5/6 to score anytime.
