Betting on international football is tough at the best of times but when it’s friendly internationals before a major tournament it’s doubly difficult.
Just ask Croatia who struggled to a 1-1 draw with Armenia on Tuesday. An encouraging result for Steve Clarke and Gareth Southgate perhaps, who’s sides will face up to the Croats in Euro Group D in the coming weeks.
Both men begin their fine-tuning tonight ahead of the big kick-off next Friday. Scotland (6/1) face a dunting match against a resurgent Netherlands (9/20) in the Algarve and will be keen to improve on their recent record against the Dutch that has seen them lose the last four clashes by 11 goals to nil on aggregate.
England shouldn’t have too much trouble against fellow Euro 2020 qualifiers Austria. Gareth Southgate confirmed his final 26-man squad on Tuesday and some fringe players could see action at Wembley as Southgate makes the most of a strong group which has plenty of competition for places.
England are 9/20 to win and goals are usually guaranteed whenever they’re at home so a BetBuilder that also includes them scoring 2+ goals pays 5/6 at Bet365.
Wales (12/1) face the trickiest of the evening’s friendly opponents in the shape of World Champions, and Euro 2020 favourites, France (1/4). Dideir Deschamps has an embarrassment of riches to choose from including Karim Benzema who makes his return to the squad. He’d be the pick of the goalscorer betting options (21/20 anytime) but it’s advisible to steer clear of any player-based bets for these friendlies when there’s likely to be so much rotation within the 90 minutes.
