It’s British Masters week! For all Brits, this week along with the British Open is one all would like to play their best golf.
Hosted by 2016 Masters Champion, Danny Willett, the British Masters returns to the iconic Belfry Golf Club, a venue which has been home to so many historic European golfing memories. I have no doubt we’ll see another memorable week and definitely one to tune in for.
Betting Picks for the British Masters
There are an impressive selection of British players in the line-up, and a few I feel will be in the mix come Sunday afternoon.
#1 Ross Fisher (110/1
), 2010 Ryder Cup start and multiple winner on the European Tour. He won the Irish Open in the past and came close in the British.
#2 Sam Horsfield (20/1
), multiple winner last year during the English swing of events amidst the pandemic scheduling. Has winning feelings on home soil!
#3 Andrew Johnson (40/1
), only win to date was the Spanish Open at Valderrama. However, has played well the last few weeks in the Canary Islands and previously shown good performances in British Opens.
#4 Ashley Chesters (200/1
), would be my outside pick. A very capable player with a solid all-round game. Goes under the radar a little but has previously played excellent in British Masters!
Dusting Off the Cobwebs Ahead of Paris and Cadiz
Since dusting off the cobwebs of the pandemic and winter months, my own game is now starting to trend in the right direction. Having a former US Open champion, Michael Campbell as my mentor is one that definitely paves the way to improvement, leaning on him for snippets of advice is without question a huge advantage.
The input of my other coaches, Jamie McConnell of the Claude Harmon Performance Centre in Dubai and Strength and Conditioning coach Mark Parry, has seen huge leaps in terms of physical improvements, contributing to an 8 mph gain in clubhead speed. Adapting to that has been a fresh experience, but should I want to achieve my goals of competing at the highest and winning golf tournaments, then speed is a must in the modern game.
My tournament schedule is taking shape nicely. I’ll be heading to Paris this weekend, and then to Cadiz for some Challenge Tour qualifiers. June will see me head back to the UK to compete in some satellite and mini tour events prior to the British Open qualifyers.
I feel very excited about my game and extremely looking forward to competing again. The juices of competitive golf are what make the endless hours of practice fully worth it!
