Our tipster marks your card for Saturday’s affair at Goodwood (1.00pm-4.20pm; seven races).
1.00 – MansionBet Beaten By A Head Handicap (2m)
The presence of Oisin Murphy on board Gavlar is a positive but he has been poor in both all-weather starts either side of a break since joining his current trainer. His only turf win (1-30) came over C&D in 2015 and he did go close last June at Beverley over this trip from 8lb higher but preference is still for MASTER MILLINER. Emma Lavelle’s charge is progressive and his only poor run in the last four was on heavy ground at Newbury in October. He holds the best claims.
Selection: Master Milliner @ SP
1.30 – MansionBet Bet 10 Get 20 Guaranteed Handicap (7f)
A penalty for Monday’s decisive win at Windsor isn’t certain to prevent Billy Mill from following up but this promises to be tougher. The filly NEBULOSA progressed with each of her three runs last year, finishing third in a Newmarket maiden behind 1,000 Guineas contender Saffron Beach in September before winning nicely herself back here soon after (7f, soft). There’s more to come from her in handicaps and Oisin Murphy rides this track very well.
Selection: Nebulosa @ SP
2.05 – MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Conqueror Fillies’ Stakes (Listed, 1m)
The feature race on the card and one in which the returning pair Maamora and Agincourt have to be respected, but perhaps race fitness can be key for LILAC ROAD. She ran well in the Group 2 May Hill at Doncaster last season and was dominant from the front on her comeback at Kempton last month. The William Haggas team is thriving and Cieren Fallon’s filly might be hard to peg back under a light weight.
Selection: Lilac Road @ 2/1
2.35 – MansionBet Proud To Sponsor British Racing Handicap (7f)
Willie John is down to a very lenient mark and has course form, but his recent bow for this trainer was rather subdued and he’ll have to show more to be of interest. Azano, on the other hand, did put in a solid run on first outing for new handler David O’Meara at Thirsk recently and can build on that, but KING’S KNIGHT made a winning return to action on the all-weather at Lingfield early last month and this unexposed colt could easily go on from that with Marco Ghiani taking a handy 3lb off his back.
Selection: King’s Knight @ 2/1
3.10 – Download The MansionBet App Handicap (5f)
Top-weight Stone Of Destiny didn’t get a lot of luck in running on her return at Newmarket recently and could easily build on that now. MOUNTAIN PEAK goes well fresh and was very consistent last season, gaining two wins in five runs prior to finishing fifth behind Stone Of Destiny over 5½f in the Portland at Doncaster in September. Ed Walker’s charge is 5lb better off now and will be suited by the bare 5f here. He could improve past his Town Moor adversary.
Selection: Mountain Peak @ 5/1
3.45 – Follow MansionBet Maiden Stakes (1m)
General Lee, Ensyaaby and Three Platoon command respect based on their runs thus far, any of the trio could be good enough to bag this maiden but local trainer David Menuisier was amongst the winners on Friday here and his newcomer FOXTROT SIZZLER could made a positive impact. He was trading at around 16/1 when the market opened and that is too dismissive perhaps.
Selection: Foxtrot Sizzler @ SP
4.20 – MansionBet Watch And Bet Handicap (1m2f)
Athers is one to keep a close eye on seasonal/handicap bow for Roger Varian – he could be a good bit better than a mark of 70 in time. Rushmore has flattered to deceive so far but can do better for Andrew Balding and Oisin Murphy too. A chance is taken on NIGHT EAGLE, gelded since last spotted, taking a significant step forward now handicapping from a modest mark. Wink Of An Eye, similarly, should do better in handicaps.
Selection: Night Eagle @ SP
