We’re at the business end of the season in the Scottish lower leagues with teams jostling for titles and play-off places. Mark Walker presents his best Scottish football tips for this weekend.
Dundee v Raith Rovers
DUNDEE simply must beat Raith Rovers at Dens Park to have a chance of finishing in second place in the Championship and they can get the job done.
James McPake’s side are unbeaten in their last six league games, but draws have killed them and they failed to see off nine-man Inverness in midweek to chalk up their third draw on the spin.
That left them four points behind Raith, meaning they need victory at Dens Park and then a favour from Hearts in their last game against Rovers combined with a win at Queen of the South to grab second spot.
But they do have the welcome return of talisman Charlie Adam to aid them and they look a far better team with the veteran ex-Liverpool and Scotland playmaker in their side.
Raith have sneaked narrow wins at Alloa and Queen of the South recently, but they might just find a determined Dundee side have too much for them at a shade under odds-on.
Falkirk v Cove Rangers
COVE RANGERS can add more misery to Falkirk at 12/5 in a congested League One title race.
The Bairns have suddenly imploded and pressed the panic button this week when they sacked Lee Miller and David McCracken after a recent dismal run.
They face a Cove side who comfortably beat them 2-0 in Aberdeen last week and have plenty about them as they aim for another promotion. Falkirk couldn’t handle Mitch Megginson who scored a double and he’s the league’s top scorer.
Falkirk have won of their last five games in the league and although Cove are better at home than on their travels, a win here
pushes them above Falkirk who were huge favourites to win the title at the start of the season.
Ayr United v Queen of the South
QUEEN OF THE SOUTH look overpriced at 15/8 to beat an Ayr United side who have hit poor form at the wrong time.
After an initial good start under manager David Hopkin, Ayr are in desperate trouble now and were thumped at Arbroath last week to make it just three points out of a possible 15 in the league.
South still need to win to be completely safe of any relegation worries and can plunge United deeper into trouble.
