I hope everyone has been enjoying the ups and downs in an exciting first half at The Masters. It’s half-time (without the pie and bovril) and as we look forward to the second half here’s an update on the story so far and what can we expect now that the cut has been decided.
What we do know is that World No.1 Dustin Johnson will not be defending his title after finishing the first two rounds (74 & 75), on five over par, missing the cut for the weekend by two shots.
Our very own home grown Teuchters, Robert MacIntyre and Martin Laird will progress and play golf this weekend so well done to both especially the debutant boy from Oban – the dream continues for MacIntyre to become the first debutant to win The Masters since Fuzzy Zoeller in 1979.
I said in my preview when selecting Rory McIlroy that my heart could be ruling my head and unfortunately I was correct after yet another disappointing effort from the Irishman. I had McIlroy and Johnson in the competition on the website with any winnings going to charity so I will donate £10 to each of the two charities that meant so much to Mr F.
However my main selection Jordan Speith,suggested at 12/1 each way is still on fire and currently available at best price 4/1.
He is looking to win his second green jacket and looking good on five under par, just two shots off the leader Justin Rose .
My Nap of the tournament is also going great guns with Cameron Smith leading Webb Simpson by four shots in the 72 hole matchbet.
One to look out for is the big hitting hulk, Bryson De Chambeau. After a disappointing first round shooting 76, he was struggling to even make the cut but bounced back yesterday with a superb 67 to get right back into contention on -1.
With showers expected over the weekend I’m thinking the projected winning score set by Bet365 at 275 or under at 6/4 looks very tempting. It means any winning score -13 or under will collect so certainly something to consider especially if conditions get tricky.
Before I go I’ll also pick out a two ball double for today starting with Patrick Reed to beat Jose Maria Olazabal 1/2 and Jordan Speith to beat Bernd Wiesberger also 1/2 paying around about 11/8 Bet365.
