Cheltenham Festival Day 3 Betting Preview – Thursday 18th March 2021

09/03/2021 admin

Cheltenham Day 3 Betting Tips

Hopefully you’re still in hanging in there or better still, in profit as we head into Day 3 of the Cheltenham betting frenzy. Here are betting tips for Cheltenham Day 3 with picks for all 7 races of the ‘St Patricks Day Thursday’ starting at 1.30pm.

1.30pm: Marsh Novices’ Chase

Having already won the Champion Bumper and the Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle in the past two seasons, the Cheveley Park Stud-owned Envoi Allen (5/6 with bet365*) is hoping to clock up the hat-trick by taking the Marsh Novices’ Chase this year – for which he is a general 4/5 chance with most bookmakers.

For many Envoi Allen is one of the bankers of the entire Cheltenham week and it would come as no surprise to see him come out of the Festival still unbeaten.

Those of you trying to eke out some each-way betting value in the contest may want to consider the 16/1 available at bet365* on Nicky Henderson’s Allart. The gelding finished fifth in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle last season, then scored a resounding victory in the Grade 2 Noel Novices’ Chase at Ascot on his chase debut. If he can brush up his jumping then he’s in with a squeak.

2.10pm: Pertemps Final

The Bosses Oscar (8/1 with bet365*) was a decent fifth in the Martin Pipe Conditional last year and Gordon Elliott his highly likely to target this race with him this season.

Second to Dandy Mag in a Pertemps qualifier at Leopardstown over Christmas, the six-year-old is the type of horse that will thrive in the hustle and bustle of a large field. There’s every chance that he will be ridden by a returning and race hungry Davy Russell too.

The aforementioned Dandy Mag (top price 20/1 at bet365*) ran poorly at the Dublin Festival, but it is too early to write him off yet and he could be a dark horse in this Final.

2.50pm: Ryanair Chase

Defending champ Min (6/1 with bet365*) made an early mistake in the Dublin Chase at Leopardstown and was pulled up. If that hasn’t dented his confidence then the possibility of going back-to-back in this contest is still on.

Imperial Aura (7/1 with bet365*) boasts form figures of 221 at Cheltenham and has not been out of the first three on any completed starts. The eight-year-old was a surprise early faller in the Silviniaco Conti Chase but he is sure to bounce back from that experience and 7/1 looks nice ante-post Cheltenham odds for him.

3.30pm: Stayers’ Hurdle

Emma Lavelle’s Paisley Park (10/3 with bet365*) is looking for a second victory in this race. After being beaten by Thyme Hill in the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury, the nine-year-old turned that form around in the Long Walk Hurdle. On all known form this season, Paisley Park looks like he will take all the beating at Prestbury Park this year.

Thyme Hill
(4/1 at bet365*) is the obvious danger to Paisley Park and they look like the most nailed on reverse forecast of the week.

4.10pm: Paddy Power Plate

Sue Smith’s runner Midnight Shadow (33/1 with bet365*) seems to show all his best form down South and he ran a wonderful race in the Caspian Caviar Gold Cup at Cheltenham back in December. The former Dipper winner is currently trading around the 25/1 mark and can go well at those juicy odds.

Of the others, the Gordon Elliott-trained Farclas (16/1 with William Hill) is of interest based on his fourth place showing at the Dublin Racing Festival.

4.50pm: Daylesford Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle

Peter Fahey’s Royal Kahala (4/1 with bet365*) showed an impressive turn of foot as she completed a Fairyhouse hat-trick at the start of January and headed straight towards the top of this ante-post Cheltenham betting market on the back of it. 4/1 appears to be her general price across the board but shorter in some places.

Gauloise carries the colours of owner Kenny Alexander and his star mare Honeysuckle won this race two years ago. If you believe in fate then 9/1 with William Hill says this mare wins it too.

5.30pm: Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup

A decent run behind Longhouse Poet at Punchestown followed by a runner-up berth in the Thyestes Chase at Gowran Park saw Run Wild Fred’s price halved from 16/1 to 8/1 for this staying event and he must have a great chance. He is now down to 5/1 with William Hill.

Longhouse Poet looks sure to rock up in this race too and betting odds of 16/1 are not to be sniffed at in the ante-post market especially if you can get NRNB betting terms.
