Juventus vs Lazio
Juventus’ Serie A title defence is in serious danger and now is the time for them to show up if they’re going to achieve their La Decima dream.
I Bianconeri will try to extend their unbeaten league streak to four matches, and a win here is very much preferred when they host Lazio on Saturday night.
After back-to-back losses against Napoli and Porto last February, Andrea Pirlo’s men have the top berth within reach since they are only trailing by seven points to Inter Milan. Juventus are sitting at the third spot at the table with 49 points.
Lazio, on the other hand, are at seventh with 43 points and they are aiming for a Champions League spot. However, they will face some serious competition with Atalanta, AS Roma, and Napoli as their major roadblocks.
They may have been dogged by inconsistency as of late, but Cristiano Ronaldo and co. are well aware of how dangerous the Biancocelesti can be on any given day.
This match is shaping up to be one of the most crucial games of the 2020/21 season. And here at SBOTOP, we will review the latest tidbits between these two clubs.
Talking Points
Do Juventus still have gas left in the tank?
With games coming in left and right for Juventus, it is clear that Andrea Pirlo is going to need more warm bodies as they try to make a run for another Scudetto.
Juventus are coming off of a convincing 3-0 win over Spezia as Alvaro Morata, Federico Chiesa, and Cristiano Ronaldo all broke loose late after enduring a slow first half.
In the said game, Pirlo also got strong performances from the likes of Merih Demiral, Federico Bernardeschi, and Weston McKennie – who recently completed his transfer to the Old Lady.
I Bianconeri are going to be severely undermanned since six of their key players are expected to be sidelined for this fixture.
Their backline depth will be tested once more as Matthijs de Ligt, Leonardo Bonucci, Juan Cuadrado, and Giorgio Chiellini are all nursing knocks, while midfielder Arthur and forward Paulo Dybala will miss time as well.
With all them out, Pirlo will need big performances from their younger players along with Cristiano Ronaldo in order to pull out their second consecutive win.
Lazio catch a lucky break
Unlike Juventus, Lazio are coming into this contest well-rested because of what happened last Tuesday.
Simone Inzaghi’s men were slated to host Torino few days ago, but the game was abandoned since the visitors didn’t show up at the venue at all.
Similar to what happened between Napoli and Juventus few months ago, Torino were not allowed to travel to Stadio Olimpico due to a COVID-19 outbreak within their squad.
And because Serie A didn’t postpone the match, Lazio were given the easiest three points that they’ll probably have all season.
Either way, the Biancocelesti are coming in here as the underdogs because their recent outings don’t offer much positives.
Lazio are winless in three out of their last four in all competitions, and their latest defeat to Bologna was one of their more embarrassing losses this term.
In the said stretch, scoring has been a problem for Lazio as they couldn’t get Ciro Immobile going.
Immobile has 14 league goals as of this writing and he needs to add to his tally if he plans on winning this game and his second straight Capocannoniere.
History
Lazio have a lot of catching up to do to somehow balance the scales in terms of their overall head-to-heads against Juventus.
In the 54 games they locked horns prior to this contest, Juventus have won 28 times, whereas Lazio won in 13 along with 13 draws.
Both sides figured in a 1-1 draw in the reverse fixture last November as Juventus saw their lead vanish when Felipe Caicedo cancelled out Cristiano Ronaldo’s goal during added time.
Betting Tip
Juventus vs Lazio | Juventus Asian Handicap -0.50 @ 1.84 | |
March 07, 03:45 (GMT+8) |
The Serie A 2021 odds point to Juventus gathering the much-needed three points in this contest.
Andrea Pirlo’s side is priced to win at 1.82, while Lazio are pegged lower at 4.20 and chances for a draw are at 3.55 in the 1X2 market.
Despite having a depleted lineup due to injuries, I am expecting for the defending Serie A champions to win in this game but they will fight tooth and nail to earn it.
Cristiano Ronaldo will be the main star in this fixture given his share of Serie A 2021 highlights, and their solid form at home should reign supreme over an inconsistent Lazio side.
