11.45 – Read Katie Walsh On Betway Insider Handicap (1m2f)
Convertible was rewarded for some consistent recent efforts when shedding his maiden tag over C&D a fortnight ago. That was Ryan Moore’s first time on board and they are major players again despite the 4lb rise. Chelmsford winner Central City is a danger, while Enough Already improved last time and could go well. TORO DORADO wasn’t best suited trying to come off a slow pace at Kempton last time and, down in trip from a reduced mark, can put in a big run.
Selection: Toro Dorado @ 12/1
12.20 – Play Ladbrokes 5-a-side On Football Novice Stakes (1m)
Brian Meehan’s gelding GLENTANEOUS showed clear promise when inched out by a well-backed Godolphin newcomer at Kempton over a mile recently. It’s very likely he’s going to improve for that and prove hard to beat here under Ryan Moore. The filly Namaste wasn’t disgraced here in her December debut and could offer something, while Oriental Art commands a close look for a David Simcock yard going well.
Selection: Glentaneous @ 4/9
12.55 – Bombardier British-hopped Amber Beer Handicap (1m)
This looks a match between INTUITIVE and Grove Ferry on paper. The former had plenty to do turning for home 42 days ago before mowing down his rivals in the home straight and winning handsomely. An 8lb rise might not prevent the follow-up, especially as Andrew Balding’s four-year-old has a career-high mark to defy having repeatedly knocked on the door on turf before his winter break.
Selection: Intuitive @ 6/5
1.25 – Betway Maiden Stakes (5f)
Mahale was second over C&D in a maiden on all-weather bow last month and has since chased home easy all-the-way winner Passionova over 6f here. She also showed speed on the grass last summer and should pick up a race soon. MISS BELLA BRAND was seven-lengths clear of everything else when second to a long odds-on jolly in a Kempton novice 11 days ago and it shouldn’t be a shock if she’s paid some compensation now.
Selection: Miss Bella Brand @ 5/1
2.05 – Betway Hever Sprint Stakes (Listed, 5f)
MOSS GILL was third to no less than the brilliant Battaash in the Nunthorpe last summer and also bagged himself a Listed success on the Knavesmire. There were excuses for his final two runs in this grade and, he started 2020 with a winning return on the all-weather at Wolverhampton. He’s very much the one to beat on ratings as Ed Bethell looks for an early statement win having taken over the license from his father. Lord Riddiford has a fitness edge that could be useful.
Selection: Moss Gill @ 6/5
2.40 – Betway Winter Derby Stakes (Group 3, 1m2f)
John Gosden’s hopes of a third successive victory in this race rest with Forest Of Dean but he has twice finished behind FELIX recently, including over C&D, and may once more find the flashing finish of Marco Botti’s Lope De Vega gelding irresistible. With no Bangkok to contend with now, and Hollie Doyle back on board (they are 2-3 together), Felix can swamp his rivals late on. Fast-improving Kingman colt Father Of Jazz could emerge as the biggest threat, though Roger Varian’s charge might need to improve once more.
Selection: Felix @ 5/2
3.10 – Heed Your Hunch At Betway Handicap (1m4f)
Cardano arrives looking for a C&D hat-trick and needs serious considering with Ray Dawson negating most of his 4lb penalty. He’s part of a strong Ian Williams hand with the versatile Lucky’s Dream a course winner (1m2f) last month and successful on penultimate run in a jumpers’ bumper here. The mare TOROCHICA won over C&D last month and didn’t seem to get home since over 2m. She’s fairly reliable here and can bounce back down in distance.
Selection: Torochica @ 9/1
3.43 – Betway Casino Handicap (1m7½f)
The hat-trick seeking Anisoptera is likely to go well and had plenty in hand when scoring here in November but that was a fairly weak contest on reflection and she’s got a headache now in dealing with the likely late challenge of ARABESCATO and Ryan Moore. The gelding has figures of 22132 here since November and was only narrowly foiled this month over 1m5f when attempting to come from last to first, form that the winner has held up since. He took a while to wind up for Adam Kirby that day and looks to be well suited therefore tackling longer trip for the first time as he certainly wasn’t stopping at the line.
Selection: Arabescato @ 9/4
