Scottish Football expert Mark Walker delves in to the Championship for two of his best bets in Scotland this weekend.
Ayr United v Arbroath
ARBROATH are the surprising form team of the Championship right now and have been underestimated for their trip to face Ayr United.
Dick Campbell’s men were rock bottom of the league not so long ago, but the penny has dropped for the Gayfield side.
Since losing at the end of last year at Hearts, the Smokies have won three and drawn three in a very encouraging run.
They’ve beaten Dunfermline and Raith Rovers and an attacking line-up of Kris Doolan, Bobby Linn and Jack Hamilton seems to be a decent mixture between youth and experience.
In contrast, Ayr have won just once in their last six games and failed to score in three of their last four games.
The 19/10 on offer for a win for on-fire Arbroath certainly appeals.
Queen of the South v Dunfermline
Another in-form team that looked overpriced are QUEEN OF THE SOUTH at home to Dunfermline at 12/5.
The Dumfries side have gone from struggling to avoid being hauled into a relegation dogfight to cruising into the play-off spots after an excellent recent run.
They followed up being moments away from beating Hearts at Palmerston Park to collecting massive wins at both Inverness and Dundee – two of the toughest places in the league to go.
Yet they are still under the radar of bookies despite just one defeat in their last nine games, which was a shock loss at Alloa.
Dunfermline started the season well, but they’ve dropped off and they seem to be poor travellers away from Fife.
They’ve won just one away league game all season and that was at Alloa in October. They’ve also failed to score in their last three trips away from East End Park.
Kilmarnock v Dundee Utd
DUNDEE UNITED can pile on the misery to Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.
Killie are on a horror run at the moment of eight defeats in a row – a club record and they have failed to score in their last five games.
Yet they are installed as firm favourites against a United side who had been in decent form – last week’s defeat at Ibrox aside – and who are ten points better off and pushing for a top six place.
It may very well be that Tommy Wright gets a tune out of Killie before the end of the season, but it’s very hard to justify favouritism on the run they’re on and United look value at 11/5.
Recommended Bets
- Arbroath 19/10
- Queen of the South 12/5
- Dundee Utd 11/5
