In a week that should have seen the LEC table take shape, week three was anything but as things get tight in the LEC.
After the week three drama, week four is set to be another tough to predict week of European League of Legends. In this week’s preview, we’ll look again at the Saturday matches as we look ahead to week four. We’ve got Schalke 04 v MAD Lions, a battle of Britain between Fnatic and Excel, plus the battle at the top between G2 Esports and Rogue.
Schalke 04 v MAD Lions
As we head into week four Schlake 04 finds itself in second place. That’s not something many people thought they’d be saying ahead of the Spring Split but here we are. Schalke believes in their play and it shows on the Rift each week. This week sees them start out against Astralis before taking on MAD Lions, a side that’s struggled to find its feet so far in the Spring Split. We back Schalke 04 here at 1/2.
While MAD Lions finds itself in joint-fourth with Fnatic, they’ve not quite hit their top gear yet. Week two saw the side bounce back slightly from a poor week one, though week three saw them again go 1-1. MAD Lions needs a 2-0 week, with week four matches against 1st and 2nd place sides, however, MAD Lions might have a mountain to climb. We have them at 31/20 to get the better of Schalke on Saturday.
Fnatic v Excel Esports
Fnatic will be coming into week three riding high off their upset victory against G2 Esports. Sat in fourth place, fixtures against SK Gaming and Excel would see Fnatic put most doubts about this new roster firmly to bed. In Excel they face their fellow UK outfit, and a side that’s been putting in some solid performances. We think Fnatic can take the win here, however, and we have them at 20/51 to take down Excel.
As for Excel, they’ve found themselves in a good position thus far in 2021. Sitting joint with Fnatic and MAD Lions matches against Vitality and Fnatic this week could see them make an early challenge for a title run as we head to the halfway stage. While we have Excel as outsiders here at 19/10 they’ve shown more than enough this season to prove that they could be title contenders in Spring.
G2 Esports v Rogue
After a disappointing loss to Fnatic last week, G2 will want to bounce back against top-placed Rogue in week four. Rogue also dropped a game last week, against second-place Schalke, so both sides will be looking to get a 2-0 week under their belts. Despite Rogue being the side in first place, we think G2 Esports might just pip them to it here. We have G2 Esports at 5/8 to take down Rogue and potentially move into the top spot.
While the loss to Schalke last week was disappointing for Rogue, they are still in first place coming into week four. A victory against G2 on Saturday could see Rogue increase the gap on G2. Rogue will feel they need a 2-0 week here, with Schlake, currently in second place, having a much easier set of fixtures than Rogue. With that in mind, we’ve got Rogue at 5/4 to take down G2, though as always, keep an eye on the Friday matches to see how they’re doing.
