Former super welterweight world title contender Austin ‘No doubt’ Trout is back in the ring for the first time in almost a year in Chihuahua this weekend to take on 32-year-old Mexican Juan Armando Garcia.
Trout is the older man by three years and returns to the ring looking to enhance a professional record of 32-5-1 and a knockout tally of 18 – including an impressive second-round stoppage win over another Mexican Rosbel Montoya.
The American, and likely short-priced favourite, is a strong fancy to get the job done early in the small hours of Sunday morning.
Brittle Garcia to Suffer Defeat
Juan Armando Garcia has not fought professionally since May 2018, a contest in Canada in which he was brutally stopped in the first round.
The welterweight was put down twice by Jessie Wilcox before failing to beat the referee’s count and offered very little.
Trout’s most recent record is far from inspiring, he has lost three of his last six fights, but he can get to Garcia early on here.
The American has shared the ring with some of the very best in this weight class, such as WBC current world champion Jermall Charlo and former unified super welterweight champion Jarrett Hurt.
This represents a significant drop in class and that is likely to tell early on.
Early night for Trout
Austin Trout has stopped only one of his last five opponents, but his most recent success was his most impressive.
The 35-year-old New Mexico fighter took only four minutes to get rid of Montoya and will be buoyed by his opponent’s most recent shortcoming.
Trout is likely to go after Garcia early on here and punters should look for an early stoppage, with rounds 1-6 a strong selection.
Garcia was destroyed by Jessie Wilcox in the opening round and an identical outcome this time around is possible while rounds one and two also appeal in the betting.
Trout is a former world title contender and can make short work of Garcia on his quest to climb back up the rankings.
The southpaw fighter has certainly been the more active of these two fighters, which is likely to be a huge factor.
The American has fought a total of 50 rounds over the last three years, while his opponent is certainly expected to be a little bit ring rusty having only his second fight since 2017 and first for almost three years.
