PSG vs Marseille (Wednesday, 20:00)
Fierce rivals PSG and Marseille will fight it out for the first piece of silverware of the season when they square off in the French Super Cup on Wednesday night.
The Parisian giants shockingly sacked Thomas Tuchel midway through the season and ex-Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino has since taken the reins at the Parc des Princes.
Pochettino posted his first win at the second attempt on Saturday with a comfortable 3-0 win over Brest in Ligue 1, and the Argentine will now be targeting his first trophy in charge of PSG.
Marseille, meanwhile, have won just one of their last four French top-flight tussles and go into this cup clash on the back of dour 0-0 draw at relegation-threatened Dijon.
However, this should be a hugely entertaining encounter and as ever I’ll head to the Bet Builder market to put together a same game multiple.
If we combine both teams to receive over one card and PSG to take over three corners we will be presented with an eye-catching even-money play.
History shows that this tends to be a fiery affair, none more so than the most recent Le Classique that generated a whopping 15 cards, five of which were red.
With that in mind, coupled with the fact that this is a cup final I wouldn’t be surprised to see another 90 minutes of bad blood and dirty tackles in northern France on Wednesday night.
What’s more, Marseille are currently the most ill-disciplined team in Ligue 1 with their 2.94 card per game average, while PSG are picking up two cards per 90 minutes.
Ruddy Buquet will have the whistle for this Super Cup showdown and he is averaging 3.75 cards per game this term and it’s worth noting that he has flashed four or more cards in 7/9 Ligue 1 assignments to date.
However, two or more cards apiece looks too short to put up at general 4/6 so I’ll add in over three PSG corners to boost the Bet Builder price up to evens.
The French champions are averaging just under six corners per game this season and they have hit four or more flag kicks in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions.
Andre Villas-Boas’ boys on the other hand are conceding over five corners per game in Ligue 1 and with star-studded PSG t expected to dominate the ball for long stages on Wednesday night I’ll happily throw in over three PSG corners to the recommended Bet Builder.
