It’s safe to say that 2020 has been a memorable year, if not for all the right reasons. In a series of three exclusive vlogs for MansionBet, Hayley reveals the ups and downs she has experienced through these challenging times.
In the first of her video diaries, Hayley takes a look back at the flat racing season. Highlights included her win at Royal Ascot on Onassis, a horse with which Hayley has enjoyed much success. It was confirmed in October by owner Charlie Fellows that Onassis has been retired to paddock, but Hayley has fond memories of the horse which brightened up a dull year for her.
In the second of her exclusive videos, Hayley considers what 2021 has in store for her. She hopes to continue riding and maybe discover another gem of a horse like Onassis. Discussing her media work with ITV Racing, Hayley admits that “I don’t enjoy it as much as riding horses”, going on to say that her role in front of camera “is not something I can do naturally”. However, she does have a lot of praise for the fun team at ITV and appreciates their role in bringing horse racing to a wider audience.
In the final part of her interview, Hayley discusses the rise of female jockeys in the UK. She points to the success of young jockey Hollie Doyle, praising her attitude and work ethic and describing her as a role model. Hayley predicts that we won’t have to wait long for a female jockey to claim a Classic victory, and that Hollie may be the one to take the first milestone win.
