It is with immense sadness that we announce the passing of our wonderful friend Paul Jain, aka Mr Fixit, at the age of 55.
Paul took ill at home on Saturday and was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital where he was cared for by the fabulous staff in the intensive care unit.
Unfortunately his condition was inoperable and he passed away peacefully on Thursday night with his family by his bedside.
Paul was our leader here at MrFixitsTips and we will miss him greatly.
We are truly heartbroken.
Over a 10-year period Paul cultivated a vibrant, active community that drew in people from all over the world. The outpouring of well wishes for him this week has been overwhelming and a testament to his popularity.
Most people on this site never had the pleasure of meeting Paul in person but those who did will assure you that he was every bit as funny, humble, patient and kind-hearted in real life as his online persona.
Even in death Paul had hoped to give life to others through the planned donation of his lungs and kidneys for transplant but unfortunately in the end this wasn’t possible.
Paul was a gentle soul who took everything in his stride with grace, good humour and humility. He was immensely talented, hugely respected within the betting industry and will be completely irreplaceable.
Paul will also be sorely missed by his friends and colleagues at the Daily Record where he worked for almost 30 years on the sports desk. He was a regular fixture in the paper, under the guise of Mr Fixit, in his ever-popular betting column.
Every Friday he would take in a hamper of snacks to share with his colleagues, summing up once more his huge generosity of spirit.
He loved the company of his friends, whether it was over a beer, a chat on the phone or a chance encounter and will leave a huge gap in the lives of those who knew him.
Paul had many passions in life: his beloved Clydebank FC, beating the bookies, a round of golf, a good pun and the occasional Leffe Ruby but none came close to his family, on whom he doted and loved deeply.
Above all of Paul’s qualities he was a devoted and loving husband and father. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Linda, daughter Katy, son James and his extended family at this difficult time.
Rest in peace Mr Fixit – you were the best!
