Atalanta vs Liverpool
FST Predicts: 2-1 Atalanta
With an impressive nine wins, one draw and just two defeats from their last 12 competitive matches in Bergamo, Atalanta have a superb record to draw momentum from ahead of their latest Champions League test against Liverpool.
The Reds have defensive issues to contend with, while their usually free-scoring attack has lacked its usual fluency and dynamism in recent weeks. La Dea know how to pull backlines apart, and Gian Piero Gasperini’s side – who scored exactly twice in each of their last two assignments – could cause an upset this week.
Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
FST Predicts: 1-1 Draw
Amazingly, qualification favourites Real Madrid and Inter Milan are both winless after two Champions League Group B fixtures each, and we think there is every chance these struggling European giants will cancel each other out in the Spanish capital this week.
With just three wins from their last 11 Champions League fixtures, Real’s continental standards have been slipping, and Inter Milan – unbeaten in eight games outside their homeland – have the tactical tenacity to avoid defeat in Madrid.
Manchester City vs Olympiakos
FST Predicts: 3-0 Manchester City
With six points and six goals from their first two matches, Man City have already entered cruise control in Group C, the Citizens can tighten their stranglehold on the section with a comfortable win against Greek outfit Olympiakos this week.
The Erythrolefki were beaten to nil at Porto last time out, and we expect Pedro Martins’ team to struggle at the Etihad Stadium against a superior Citizens side. City scored three goals in each of their first two Group C assignments, and we think they can match that output here.
Red Bull Salzburg vs Bayern Munich
FST Predicts: 3-2 Bayern Munich
Defending champions Bayern Munich cross the border into Austria on Tuesday for a date with an expansive Red Bull team in Salzburg. Jesse Marsch’s men scored four times, but took just one point from their opening pair of Group A contests, though RB showed enough quality against both Lokomotiv Moscow and Atletico Madrid to suggest they can test Bayern this week.
The Bavarians goal-scoring prowess is incredible however, and having plundered 17 goals in their last five fixtures in all competitions, Hansi Flick’s top-heavy juggernaut should eventually be able to out-gun their hosts.
Blackburn Rovers vs Middlesbrough
FST Predicts: 1-1 Draw
After a run of four defeats in five, Blackburn are caught in a powerful downward drift, though Rovers can halt their slide with a point against draw specialists Middlesbrough at Ewood Park on Tuesday.
Boro are unbeaten in eight games, though a return of four draws from that stretch means their points haul isn’t as impressive as it might have been. Three of those four ties finished 1-1, and we anticipated a similar outcome in Lancashire this week when Neil Warnock’s men visit Rovers.
Cardiff City vs Barnsley
FST Predicts: 1-1 Draw
Barnsley put a five-match unbeaten run on the line when they travel to Wales to take on Cardiff City, and the evidence suggests the Tykes can extend their positive sequence by taking a point against the Bluebirds.
Cardiff shared the spoils in four of their last six games, with the most recent trio of those stalemates finishing 1-1. With three draws in their last five, Barnsley have been taking their points in singles too, and these teams should prove hard to separate in the Welsh capital.
