COVE RANGERS have flown under the radar in the League One title race but can prove their credentials by beating pre-season title favourites Partick Thistle at home.
The Aberdeen side have been overlooked in favour of the Jags and Falkirk but both those sides have already suffered setbacks this season.
Cove have retained the same strong squad that turned League Two into a cakewalk for them last term and look like they should be in the mix this season at the very least.
They are particularly formidable at their Balmoral Stadium home. They took the lead there against Hibs a couple of weeks ago and only lost 2-1 when the Easter Road side sent their big guns on in the League Cup.
And Paul Hartley’s side had a hugely impressive 100 per cent home record of 14 games and 14 wins in the league last term.
Ian McCall’s men have yet to convince and Cove are a fair price to maintain their outstanding record.
Dundee would surely have gone off heavy odds-on favourites against Raith Rovers if you were predicting the price a couple of weeks ago but are odds-against to win on Saturday now.
The newly-promoted Kirkcaldy side have started the season impressively with two wins against Arbroath and Queen of the South. However, a trip to Dens Park should surely be a serious upgrade.
There are still grave reservations about Dundee’s chances this season under the current management team and their goalkeeping situation must give their punters the fear.
But frankly, with the squad James McPake has at his disposal, they have to be disposing of sides like Rovers if they are in any way serious of challenging Hearts for the Championship title.
They are crammed full of Premiership-standard players and look too big to see off the Stark’s Park men.
Queen’s Park showed signs last week of what they are capable of and are another who are surprisingly available at odds against for their trip to Stranraer.
They were held at Stirling Albion on the first day of the season but showed plenty of signs last week of being a cut above the rest in this league with an impressive showing that should have yielded far more than just the two goals against Albion Rovers.
The eye-catching signing of 54-time capped New Zealand star Michael McGlinchey this week underlines the huge financial advantage they have in League Two.
Ten-man Stranraer clung on for a point last week at Annan but this should present Queen’s Park with their first away win in the league.
