Marseille vs Manchester City
FST Predicts: 2-1 Manchester City
Pep Guardiola takes his inconsistent Citizens team to France on Tuesday for a date with Group C antagonists Marseille, and having seen his defensively lacklustre troops keep just two clean sheets in their last eight matches, the Catalonian boss will know his side will have score at least twice at the Véledrome.
With an average of 2.3 goals scored per 90 minutes across their last eight Champions League fixtures, City have proved they can pack a punch on the continent however, and we expect the Manchester giants to make it two group wins from two.
Liverpool vs Midtjylland
FST Predicts: 5-0 Liverpool
Danish minnows and Champions League first timers Midtjylland took a pounding on match day one last week, when they were dismantled 4-0 at home by easy on the eye Serie A outfit Atalanta.
Unfortunately for the not so great Danes, Liverpool have the goal-scoring power to run up an even meatier victory on Merseyside this week, and Jurgen Klopp’s Premier League champions looks set to run riot at Anfield.
Borussia Monchengladbach vs Real Madrid
FST Predicts: 3-2 Real Madrid
Both Gladbach and Real Madrid were involved in hugely entertaining Champions League contests last week, and the teams’ clash in Germany on Tuesday has all the makings of another gripping end-to-ender.
The Bundesliga side shared four goals with Inter in Italy in their first Group B match-up, while Real fell to a head-turning 3-2 reverse at home to Shakhtar Donetsk. With both teams looking far more comfortable attacking than defending, expect goals again at BORUSSIA-Park.
Brentford vs Norwich City
FST Predicts: 2-1 Brentford
Brentford have won eight of their last 11 Championship games at Griffin Park, and the Bees should have a sting potent enough to take maximum points again when they take on a Norwich team whose recent results have been flattering.
The Canaries needed a stoppage time penalty to see off likely relegation candidates Rotherham after the international break before further single goal triumphs against 17th placed Birmingham (1-0) and second bottom Wycombe (2-1) on Saturday – and a higher-calibre Brentford team can stop City’s winning fragile streak.
Swansea City vs Stoke City
FST Predicts: 1-1 Draw
With just a single defeat each after seven games, both Swansea and Stoke have made solid starts to the 2020/21 Championship campaign, and with near identical records in the division so far, we expect these well-matched teams to cancel each other out on Tuesday.
Both teams scored in Swansea’s last four matches and in three of Stoke’s last four outings, making a score draw a likely outcome when these promotion chasers lock horns in Wales.
Blackburn Rovers vs Reading
FST Predicts: 2-0 Reading
Early front-runners Reading have exploded out of the blocks in the Championship, and having won six of their first seven fixtures of the new season, the Royals’s powerful mix of momentum and confidence should allow them to take maximum points at Ewood Park.
With just one win from their last four assignments, Rovers have been hitting plenty of bumps of late, and having failed to score in successive matches at home, another frustrating evening in Lancashire looks on the cards.
