The Europa League Group Stages get up and running tonight and I fancy Tottenham to kick off their campaign by collecting three points.
Tottenham vs LASK Linz (Thursday, 20:00)
Tottenham will be looking to bounce back from their late London derby collapse when they entertain LASK Linz in Europa League Group J on Thursday night.
Jose Mourinho’s men have been scoring freely this season, however, Spurs’ Achilles heel lies at the other end of the pitch – the leaky Londoners have failed to keep a clean sheet in nine outings across all competitions this season.
The capital club will head into this Group J curtain-raiser looking to put last Sunday’s painful 3-3 draw behind them and a home win is odds-on at a general 1/4.
Standing in Spurs’ way on Thursday night is Austrian outfit LASK Linz who flourished during their first foray onto the continent last term when reaching the last-16 of the Europa League.
Dominik Thalhammer’s troops arrive in north London having won six of their opening nine matches of the season, however, I expect Tottenham to have too much for their Austrian guests.
There is little value in backing a Spurs success at the aforementioned odds and therefore, I’m going to bump the price up ever so slightly when making use of the Bet 365 Bet Builder feature.
The combination that I like the look of is Tottenham to win, over one Tottenham goal, over three Tottenham corners and LASK to collect at least one card – a combination that will give us a backable 4/5 shot.
Spurs have won each of their last three Europa League matches and they have notched at least two goals during each of those ties.
Mourinho has some serious firepower at his disposal – Tottenham have made the net bulge 16 times across their last three outings – and even if the “Special One” shuffles his pack I suspect Spurs will have enough in reverse to put LASK to the sword on Thursday night.
I’m also happy to back Spurs to hit over three corners during this contest alongside at least one LASK card on a night where the Austrians may have to revert to the dark arts when trying to tame Tottenham’s top-heavy attack.
