The return of Premier League football after the international break is always an exciting thing to look forward to, but this week the excitement is even greater.
It all kicks off at lunchtime on Saturday with the ever-entertaining Merseyside Derby, and this is one of the most eagerly anticipated in recent memory.
Everton, who haven’t beaten Liverpool in ten years in any competition, come into this clash having won all four Premier League games this season. They face the reigning Premier League champions and arch rivals Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp’s side are deeply wounded after a 7-2 humiliation at the hands of Aston Villa before the international break.
Could this be the year Everton finally end their winless run in the Merseyside Derby? Or will we see a response from the defending champions?
Ahead of this bumper clash, our experts at FST have put together a tasty looking 20/1 Betfair #OddsOnThat. You can also find the rest of our betting tips and analysis on our Everton vs Liverpool predictions.

FST’s Merseyside Derby #OOT
Everton win or draw double chance
Alongside Aston Villa, Everton have been the standout performers in the Premier League this season. They have won all seven competitive games so far and their summer transfer business is looking incredibly shrewd right about now.
The arrival of James Rodriguez has inserted a player of real class into the build up play and that’s helped the Toffees score 12 top flight goals so far, with their last outing being a 4-2 win over Brighton.
Much is being made of Everton’s ten year winless record against their great Merseyside rivals, but it’s worth noting that the hosts have lost just one of their last eight competitive home games against Liverpool.
3 or more goals to be scored
The Premier League has been all about the goals so far this season, and we don’t expect this game to peter without plenty of goalmouth action.
Liverpool’s 7-2 demolition at Aston Villa illustrated their defensive weakness, but their attack remains as potent as ever and the result is an average of 5.5 goals per Premier League game so far this season, with only one of those failing to go over 2.5.
Everton have been incredible going forward, scoring 24 goals in their seven competitive matches and seeing at least three goals scored in all but one of these. Their only low scoring affair came on gameweek one as they narrowly beat Spurs in London.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin to score anytime
Dominic Calvert-Lewin showed signs of fulfilling his potential last season as he netted 13 top flight goals for Everton, but this season has seen him reach greater heights than even he could have imagine.
The 23-year-old striker has already scored two hat-tricks in all competitions this term and has netted six Premier League goals in four outings. He’s yet to fail to find the net in the top flight this season and is flourishing with the newly arrived supply chain of James Rodriguez.
Not only that, but he found the net on his England debut last week so will return to Goodison Park in even higher spirits on Saturday.
Abdoulaye Doucoure to be carded
While most of the plaudits have gone to James Rodriguez and Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the early stages of the season, Everton’s midfield revolution wouldn’t be complete without the £20 million signing of combative midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure from Watford.
The 27-year-old has started every league game for his new club, but the Frenchman does know how to get on the referee’s bad side. He has already been booked once for Everton and, prior to his move, had been booked a massive 26 times in his last three seasons at Watford, 16 of which came on home soil.
Add him into the melting pot of emotions that is the Merseyside Derby and it’s a recipe for a caution.
