SUNDAY’s card looks stacked ahead of the forthcoming international break and I’ve identified three angles of attack across the continent:
Southampton vs West Brom (Sunday, 12:00)
Southampton stumbled at the start of the season, however, they bounced back with a spirited 1-0 win away at Burnley and the Saints will now be targeting back-to-back wins when they play host to West Brom on Sunday.
Plenty of punters were sweet on Ralph Hasenhuttl’s Saints in the ante-post markets and the south coast side will smell blood on Sunday when they face a West Brom team who have endured a baptism of fire upon their return to the top-flight.
Southampton are 4/5 with Boylesports to bag all three points this weekend, however, I’m more attracted to the same price of 4/5 on offer with Sky Bet for the Saints to score two or more goals on Sunday.
Saints boss Hasenhuttl has one of the deadliest strikers in the division at his disposal in the shape of Danny Ings and the Baggies brittle backline could find the in-form Englishman too hot to handle.
Slaven Bilic’s side have shipped 11 goals across their opening three assignments of the season – the highest goals-against tally in the Premier League to date – and it’s also worth mentioning that the Midlands outfit have conceded at least three goals in each of their first three fixtures of the season.
With that in mind, coupled with the fact that West Brom’s last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals, I’m happy to back the home side to notch up at least two goals at St Mary’s on Sunday.
Wolves vs Fulham (Sunday, 14:00)
Wolves were woeful in last weekend’s 4-0 thumping away at West Ham but the Old Gold can get back on track when they welcome Fulham to Molineux on Sunday afternoon.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have won plenty of admirers in recent seasons and as such there is no reason for panic just yet, however, the same can’t be said for newly-promoted Fulham.
The Cottagers have lost each of their opening three Premier League matches of the season and one bookmaker has already paid out on single and multiple bets on Scott Parker’s side getting relegated.
Fulham’s dismal start to season can be attributed to their defensive deficiencies – the capital club have conceded 10 goals across their first three fixtures – and that does not bode well ahead of a clash with a wounded Wolves side.
A Wolves win is odds-on at a general 1/2 with most firms, however, I’m going to opt for an alternative angle by backing Wolves to overcome a -1 start on the asian handicap at 24/25 with Bet 365 – a bet that would only see you completely out of pocket should Wolves fail to win the match.
Wolves chief Santo will be expecting a response from his side and given the superior attacking talent that he has at his disposal, coupled with the Londoners leaky backline, I’m happy to back the hosts with a -1 start on the asian handicap.
Montpellier vs Nimes (Sunday, 12:00)
Montpellier will be looking to maintain their momentum when they welcome Nimes to the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday afternoon.
Michel Der Zakarian’s men have taken 10 points from the last 12 on offer and it’s also worth noting that Montpellier have now won 12 of their last 15 Ligue 1 tussles on home turf.
Such imperious home form does not bode well for a Nimes side who are suffering from a sustained bout of travel sickness – the visitors have failed to triumph in 16 of their last 17 French top-flight road trips.
Bernard Blaqaurt’s men have made a mixed start to the season following a run of one win, two draws and two losses, however, in-from Montpellier could put the Crocodiles to the sword on Sunday afternoon.
La Pailade have turned over the likes of Lyon and Nice at this venue in recent weeks and they can remain in the division’s upper echelons when they welcome a Nimes side who have recorded just one clean sheet across their last 12 away days.
Indeed, a home success looks slightly skinny at 7/10 with Unibet, however, we can nudge the price up to 4/5 with Sky Bet by backing Montpellier to score two or more goals in this match – a bet that has banked profit in each of the hosts last four fixtures.
