The transfer window deadline is just around the corner and various teams all over Europe are hopeful that they can make the most out of borrowed time.
Strengthening with depth and quality is always important especially for the clubs here in the Premier League. And with the 2020/21 season already underway, doing so would definitely boost their Premier League 2020 odds in achieving their respective objectives.
My writing colleague made his list on who are the biggest losers and winners so far in the transfer market, but it might be still too early to tell.
Manchester United, who were listed as one of the losers, continue their hunt for a winger that can play alongside Bruno Fernandes, Anthony Martial, Paul Pogba, and Marcus Rashford.
Meanwhile, Chelsea plan to strengthen their goalkeeper depth given how Kepa Arrizabalaga continues to disappoint as of the moment, while Manchester City have brought in a new piece that should help them immensely.
Those are just some of the notable developments recently and SBOTOP has you covered with the latest Premier League 2020 updates.
Manchester United need to move on from Jadon Sancho
The Red Devils still doesn’t have Jadon Sancho in their lineup. And with their talks with BVB reaching an impasse, perhaps they would have to look elsewhere for good.
With that said, Manchester United has been linked to names such as Alex Telles, Ismaila Sarr, and even Ansu Fati.
Alex Telles offers a similar skillset to Sergio Reguillon, who was a United target that just signed with Tottenham last week. The speedy Brazilian can play either as a left-back or as a winger that could provide significant competition with Luke Shaw.
However, Porto and United have yet to agree to a transfer fee as they have different valuations for Telles. The Portuguese side want at least 20-M Euros, but United wouldn’t match their offer so far.
Meanwhile, United reportedly offered a massive bid for Barcelona’s Ansu Fati that was around 150-M Euros, but the Blaugrana quickly rejected it as they continue their own rebuild under Ronald Koeman.
Ismaila Sarr’s availability was already inquired upon by the Red Devils. However, there are no imminent signs that a deal will come into fruition.
Another area that United need to strengthen is their centre-back position as the combination of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof won’t cut it.
Leipzig’s Dayot Upamecano was linked earlier to the Red Devils, but it looks like it won’t happen anytime soon given that they’ve spent a portion of their budget to Donny van de Beek.
Chelsea in search for answers
While Chelsea have shown everyone that they mean business, that hasn’t translated to success after the first three games of their 2020/21 Premier League campaign.
The Blues have been underwhelming. A loss to Liverpool and a tough draw against West Brom highlights the fact that growing pains will be inevitable for the young squad.
In terms of the makeup of their roster, Frank Lampard needed to address their goalkeeping concerns as they are quite thin on that end.
Starter Kepa Arrizabalaga is in the doghouse for his lacklustre performances, and at the same time, the Blues know that they can’t rely on the aging Willy Caballero in the long run.
Which is why Chelsea wasted no time in bringing over Edouard Mendy in a five-year contract that is valued around 24-M Euros.
Mendy previously played for Rennes last season in Ligue 1. In 24 appearances, the Senegalese international kept nine clean sheets and helped his team book a Champions League berth for the first time in club history.
He, along with fellow new signee Ben Chilwell, are expected to make their debuts in their match tomorrow against Tottenham in the Carabao Cup.
Manchester City adding depth at the back
The search for a Vincent Kompany replacement is still on for Pep Guardiola, and he is hopeful that their latest signing would fit the bill.
The Sky Blues went on to acquire Ruben Dias from Benfica in a player swap deal with Nicolas Otamendi, and the Portuguese international is expected to make his debut soon.
Signing Ruben Dias should be helpful for City as they were brutally beaten by Leicester City in the last time out.
The Foxes plundered five goals in the said game as Jamie Vardy ran roughshod to a leaky City defence led by Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Eric Garcia, and Nathan Ake.
Prior to Ruben Dias’ signing, City were linked to Kalidou Koulibaly, Jules Kounde, and Jose Gimenez, but they never pulled the trigger.
Dias had 12 goals in 133 appearances for Benfica and he was an integral part of Portugal’s 2018 World Cup team.
