There was no shortage of goals across the Premier League and Serie A yesterday and I’ve identified two doubles from both respective leagues that I like the look of on Sunday, as well as a single from France.
English Premier League
Tottenham vs Newcastle 14:00
Spurs bounced back from their opening day setback in style at Southampton last weekend and Jose Mourinho’s men can make it back-to-back league wins when they host Newcastle on Sunday.
The capital club have won each of their last three matches across all competitions and I suspect their top-heavy attack will prove too hot to handle for the Toon Army.
Tottenham did most of their good work at home last season – claiming 12 of their 16 league victories at this venue – and they have won five of their last six meetings with the Magpies.
Both Harry Kane and Son Heung- Min are in red-hot form and that does not bode well for a Newcastle side who were ruthlessly cut apart by Brighton last Sunday.
Only relegated Norwich conceded more goals on their travels last term and that could see value lie with Harry Kane to hit the back of the net at 5/6 with PaddyPower.
Whether or not Kane notches remains to be seen, however, for the first half of the Premier League double I’m going to back Tottenham to triumph on Sunday.
Man City vs Leicester 16:30
Man City launched their bid to reclaim the Premier League title with an eye-catching 3-1 win away at Wolves last Monday and the Blue Moon will be looking to make it two wins from two when they lock horns with Leicester on Sunday afternoon.
Pep Gaurdiola’s wounded stars were clearly stung by their shortcomings last season and it’s hard to imagine them finishing 18 points adrift of the summit this time around.
The Citizens lay down an early marker in the title race at Molineux on Monday and I fancy the hosts to overcome a Leicester City side who have enjoyed a quietly impressive start to their season.
The Foxes followed up their 3-0 win away at West Brom by brilliantly dismantling Burnley last Sunday, however, a trip to the Etihad should prove a much sterner test for Brendan Rodgers side.
City slammed in 102 goals in 38 Premier League games last season – an average of almost 2.7 goals per game – and Man City have made the net bulge at least twice in 11 of their last 12 league games at the Etihad.
What’s more, the hosts have won each of their last seven top-flight tussles on home turf and with that in mind, I’m going to double up on a Man City and Tottenham win to give us a nice looking Even-Money shot with NoviBet.
Serie A
Moving into Italy and another double that I like the look of on Sunday is Napoli to defeat Genao and AC Milan to win away at Crotone.
Napoli started their season with a 2-0 win away at Parma last weekend and Gennaro Gattuso’s charges can chalk up their first home win of the season on Sunday.
Indeed, Genoa won 4-1 last weekend against newly–promoted Crotone, however, a trip to the San Paolo provides a major upgrade on that challenge, not to mention Napoli have avoided defeat in each of their last 16 meetings with Rolando Maran’s men.
Napoli have scored at least two goals across their last 9 Serie A assignments at home and given the wealth of attacking talent that Gattuso has at his disposal I’m siding with Napoli for the first half of my Italian double.
For the second half of the aforementioned double I’m going to back AC Milan to make two wins from two when they travel to Serie A newcomers Crotone.
AC Milan finished last season in style by avoiding defeat in each of their final 12 Serie A outings and they picked up where they let off with a 2-0 win over Bologna last Monday.
The Rossoneri will be without talisman Zlatan Ibrahimovic for this tussle, however, the San Siro side should have enough firepower to see off a Crotone outfit who endured a baptism of fire last weekend when being thumped 4-1 by Genoa.
I suspect Crotone could crumble again this weekend and given that red-hot Milan have scored 37 goals across their last 13 league games I’m going to combine a Napoli and AC Milan success at Even-Money with Betfred.
Ligue 1
Finally, I’m going to delve into Ligue 1 in France where Monaco will be looking to get back to winning ways when they welcome Strasbourg to the Stade Louis on Sunday.
A late collapse saw Niko Kovac’s side lose 2-1 away at in-form Rennes last time out, however, Monaco should be too strong for a Strasbourg side who have lost three of their opening four fixtures of the season.
Thierry Laurey’s troops have conceded at least two goals in three of those defeats and their defensive frailty could be exposed when they meet a Monaco side who have one of the deadliest strikers in the division in the shape of Wissam Ben Yedder.
Monaco have avoided defeat in each of their last five matches in their own manor, while Starsbourg have lost each of their last three Ligue 1 road trips.
Given Starsbourg’s stuttering start to the season, coupled with Kovac’s superior quality, I’m going to rely on Monaco at an attractive looking 5/6 with BoyleSports on Sunday.
