Gameweek 2 was a real mix for Fantasy Football managers, with the difference between a bad week and a great one coming down to a select group of players. Getting it right was difficult this week. For instance, hundreds of thousands binned Heung-Min Son and the same number turned to Bruno Fernandes. That’s a switch which hurt a lot of managers over the weekend.

Fantasy Football Transfer Tips this Week
Wolves the go-to side
Wolves have a sea of green ahead of them, while their lack of European distractions make them an FPL dream. Nuno Espirito Santo will largely stick to the same side, while a fixture list that sees them face West Ham, Fulham, Leeds, Newcastle and Palace in their next five makes the Wolves triple-up interesting.
Raul Jimenez (£8.5million) is their standout, but there are some cut price options. Two good displays have led to a price rise for Daniel Podence (£5.6m) but at that price he’s still a good midfield option. Podence is expected to feature in the Wolves front three for that good run, so he could do some real damage.
Wolves also look solid at the back. They’ve splashed out for Barcelona’s Nelson Semedo (£5.5m), but more tried and tested options like Conor Coady (£5m) and Romain Saiss (£5.1m) stand out.
The Aubameyang Alternative
In just 90 minutes at Molineux on Monday, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.6m) was able to launch himself inside the top 20 midfielders in the game, despite playing half as many minutes as most of his rivals. It was a classy display by the Belgian and we fancy his chances against a Leicester side who look rocky at the back. With many turning on Aubameyang, KDB is a good option in his place.
Focus on weak sides
While many like to focus on the big guns in FPL, one way to approach the weekend is to target the division’s strugglers. So far that’s tended to be West Brom and Fulham, with the Baggies taking on Chelsea at the Hawthorns this weekend. It might just be time to turn to some Blues assets.
Timo Werner (£9.5m) is certainly a good captaincy option if you have him, while the cut-price Kai Havertz (£8.4m) will have caught the attention with his star turn in midweek. While many will write off a hat-trick against Barnsley, the most interesting thing was seeing Havertz starting centrally. He played in his preferred number 10 role, which could be a gamechanger for the German.
Another side to prey on is Newcastle, who looked dreadful against Brighton last weekend. We don’t expect them to have a much better time against Heung-Min Son (£9m) and Harry Kane (£10.5), a pair who bagged 45 points between them at Southampton last weekend.
Who to Captain in GW3
Timo Werner
The Chelsea forward is among the most transferred out players this week, but as we said he’s one to watch against West Brom. We’ve already seen Jamie Vardy and Dominic Calvert-Lewin cause problems for the Baggies, with the newcomers conceding eight goals in their opening two games. We’ve backed that run to continue in our West Brom vs Chelsea predictions.
With plenty of managers losing faith in Werner, there’s a good chance to get the edge this week by backing him as your captain. The German isn’t going to get an easier chance to score his first goal for the Blues, while a switch to a 4-2-3-1 should give him even more creative support. The Blues scored 15 times in eight clashes with lat season’s bottom four and after their £200million upgrade they’re likely to rack up more, with Werner our pick to be at the centre of the action.
