West Ham vs Newcastle
FST Predicts: 2-2 Draw
Last season’s meetings between West Ham and Newcastle were a thrill a minute, with nine goals plundered across the two Premier League encounters in total. The contests, that finished level at 2-2 and 3-2 to Newcastle respectively extended the Magpies fine record against the Irons that now reads just two defeats in seven clashes. With new signings in tow, Newcastle can avoid defeat in London again in what promises to be another corker.
Crystal Palace vs Southampton
FST Predicts: 1-0 Southampton
Under 2.5 goals were scored in five of the last six skirmishes between Crystal Palace and Southampton, and a similarly tight affair is anticipated in this season opener at Selhurst Park. The Eagles have a huge number of injuries to contend with however, and that could open the door for the Saints to steal in for three points.
Bournemouth vs Blackburn
FST Predicts: 1-1 Draw
Shorn of some of their best players after a summer exodus, the Cherries are facing up to a year of transition in the Championship, and Eddie Howe’s men could start the new campaign with an underwhelming draw at home to a dogged Rovers team. Blackburn finished the 2019/20 season poorly, though draws at high flying Brentford and Swansea highlighted their game-raising ability against the division’s bigger names. That habit of turning it on in tough tests could see them earn a point at the Vitality Stadium against recently relegated Bournemouth.
Huddersfield vs Norwich City
FST Predicts: 3-1 Norwich City
Norwich begin life back in the Championship with a winnable looking opening fixture at Huddersfield on Saturday. The Canaries, who lost just one of their last 11 meetings with Town, will be keen to put their best foot forward with a re-tuned squad and a comfortable win looks probable.
QPR vs Nottingham Forest
FST Predicts: 3-2 QPR
QPR were the 5th highest scoring team in the Championship last season, and Mark Warburton’s attack minded Rangers hit the net more often at home than title winning Leeds. Leaking goals is still a problem however, though a combination of their strengths and weaknesses should lead to a captivating opening match against Reading at Loftus Road.
Derby County vs Reading
FST Predicts: 2-0 Derby County
Play-off contenders Derby will be targeting a fast start when they face an unbalanced looking Reading team at Pride Park this weekend, and the Rams look good to gather three points at the Royals expense. The Rams plundered goals in 22 of their last 23 Championship fixtures and should have enough quality to oust a Reading outfit that finished the previous campaign with five defeats in eight assignments.
