It’s the big day on Salisbury’s calendar this afternoon with their eight-race meeting (1.00pm-4.50pm) featuring the Group 3 Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes (3.10pm) as the feature contest.
Irish trainer Jessica Harrington narrowly missed out on the prize a year ago and has another leading contender today. You can watch all the action from Salisbury via live streaming when logged into MansionBet and our tipster has selections for all races on the card.
1.00 – Shadwell Apprentice Handicap Division 1 (1m)
Any further easing in the ground might be a help but, either way, FITZROVIA ran well enough at Bath last time in the fog to suggest a return to winning ways isn’t far off.
The experienced Pierre-Louis Jamin is a good ally in this sphere and they have fair claims. Mr Top Hat remains in good form and is proving very consistent this summer.
Tip: Fitzrovia @ 4/1
1.35 – Shadwell Apprentice Handicap Division 2 (1m)
It might be worth giving a chance to handicap/turf debutant WIN WIN POWER for the Richard Hannon team. The Exceed And Excel colt shaped with promise in two all-weather starts in the spring and isn’t going in too deep here. Blackcurantspangle is another that has potential going into this sphere.
Tip: Win Win Power @ 4/1
2.10 – Shadwell Novice Stakes (1m)
Mahomes cost 1,000,000 gns last year and is out of the multiple Group 1 winner The Fugue, so any money arriving for John Gosden’s debutant would have to be heeded.
The standard on form is set by GOLDEN FLAME, who has shaped well behind the likes of Devious Company and Battleground in three runs. He was slightly underwhelming at Goodwood last month but, from the Mark Johnston yard, could easily bounce back.
Tip: Golden Flame @ 9/4
2.40 – British Stallion Studs EBF Quidhampton Maiden Fillies’ Stakes (7f)
NOON STAR makes very solid appeal on paper, the daughter of Galileo being closely related to the likes of Mori. Sir Michael Stoute sent out Snow Shower to win this contest on debut 12 months ago and this nicely-bred sort is one to keep onside.
Light Refrain is the only one with experience and her second-time-out Doncaster fourth gives her something to build on.
Tip: Noon Star @ 11/4
3.10 – Shadwell Dick Poole Fillies’ Stakes (Group 3, 6f)
Time Scale and Happy Romance are perhaps the standard-bearers on form, the latter bidding to give trainer Richard Hannon a third win in four years in this race.
At the prices however Irish raider DICKIEDOODA is preferred. Jessica Harrington almost plundered this with Millisle a year ago and anything she sends to Britain commands respect. Her filly has some excellent form in Ireland this summer and shouldn’t be far away at the end.
Tip: Dickiedooda @ 8/1
3.40 – European Bloodstock News EBF ‘Lochsong’ Fillies’ Handicap (6f)
Given the impressive nature of last month’s Ascot success, it might prove folly to go against the claims of CHIL CHIL despite a 9lb increase from the assessor. Andrew Balding’s filly had to make her way through traffic in that race but, ultimately, won in very ready fashion. She can back it up.
Tip: Chil Chil @ 7/4
4.15 – Racing Welfare Supporting Racing’s Workforce Handicap (5f)
Having gone close on reappearance at Lingfield (5f, good to firm) last month after 298 days off, it’s probably safe to assume the heavy conditions at Goodwood last week were a contributing factor in the fading performance of SHANI.
Oisin Murphy’s mount gets a first-time visor here and can bounce back to form on a more suitable surface.
Tip: Shani @ 11/1
4.50 – Racing TV Handicap (1m2f)
Having produced a career-best to win at Windsor (1m2f, soft) last month a 6lb rise in the weights may underestimate the lightly-raced SANDYMAN.
This is just his fourth foray into handicapping and he’s got further scope from his new perch of 81.
Tip: Sandyman @ 8/1
