The second afternoon of the St Leger Festival at Doncaster brings with it the Park Hill Stakes and May Hill Stakes, both Group 2 contests for fillies being entirely appropriate on ‘Ladies Day’ at Town Moor.
They are the centrepieces on a valuable card which also includes a £200,000 Sales Race for two-year-olds and the ‘Carrie Red’ Fillies’ Nursery worth £50,000.
The May Hill was won in 2017 by the much-loved Laurens en route to taking the Fillies’ Mile the following month at Newmarket, while the Park Hill was landed in 2016 by Simple Verse, winner of the St Leger 12 months previous. John Gosden, Luca Cumani and Ralph Beckett have shared the last six renewals between them.
The 2YO Sales race is one of the most valuable of its type on the British calendar and will attract contenders from the most powerful yards.
